don't buy a tippmann 98 even if you fully upgrade it it will still be a slow firing heavy and crappy gun (shure it is durable but it has to be since it is impossible to fix it yourself because of the clamshell design if you open it up all the f**kin parts will go flyin and you will never be able to find em all) i know because i used to own one and i sold it one week after i bought it because i hated it soooo much trust me i have been playing pball for 6 years i have used tons of guns and besides brass eagle tippmann is the worst you should definetly buy a spyder xtra tl or compact

p.s. just please don't buy a tippmann or brass eagle if you need a gun i will give you a really good deal on a shutter with tons of stuff just please don't buy a tippmann gun

p.s. my email is sawtan_the_great@altavista.com email me if you want to buy the shutter or you just want some advice
(JUST PLEASE DON'T BUY A TIPPMANN GUN)

Im sorry you had a bad experience taking the gun apart but perhaps you didnt do it quite right. I got my first tippmann a month ago. I took it apart the first time and was very careful because i heard it was difficult. well, im glad to say i was overcautious. it was no problem. pieces dont 'shoot' everywhere. If you rip off the cover like a jack-in-the-box then perhaps things will fly, not saying that you did it that way but it is not a normal occurance. Its not "impossible to fix" because normal people aged 14 and up can and do fix thier tippmanns when necessary. It might not be all snap-together easy as pulling a pin to disassemble but oh well, its like a real gun that way.

I like the Tippmann because it feels like a real gun, not like a toy. I like it because i installed a RT (very easy to do by the way) and now its very close to full auto (about 9 balls per sec) and shoots very clean very solid. and yes it is VERY durable. thats a good thing. This kid had a temper problem and threw his tippmann 98 against a tree... it was fine! Not saying that people should or *would* do this but accidents happen. It would suck to sit out a game because a gun was broken. I like my Tippmann because its very upgradeable. just check out http://www.m98center.com and see the ways people have tricked out the gun. NIce! Sure other guns are upgradable too and try them out and see if you like them. Just dont bash a tipp because you lost a spring.

I took my old Model 98 apart, and I was very, very careful doing it. I took off the frame, and sure enough parts flew everywhere. Took me about a week to find them all and put it back together. I look on the internet for a new gun...about a week later I sold my 98, bought a STS, and love it so much more.

Well, i suppose i should mention my experience is with the newest model Tippmann 98 Custom, so Im not sure how different the older models are to assemble/disassemble. I dont consider myself very 'advanced' in assembling things but i must say im very surprised that some people seem to have trouble with the assembly. Most people dont. Of course if you have questions or problems i found that the Tippmann website has a really useful forum for helping people with Mods or whatever (http://www.tippmann.com/forum/default.asp).

I like the Tippmann (98 Custom) because it it comes with nice rubber grips and is probabally the most durable and reliable guns around. Its very solid. If you eventually get a better gun you can keep this one for friends to use or as backup and it will be good as new. It does have a lifetime warranty. It has the ability to upgrade very easily too. The Response Trigger made mine VERY fast (9+ rounds per second) and its alot of fun to use it was only $78 at http://www.888paintball.com.

If you do get one be sure to get a new barrel the stock one sucks, but thats the way it is with most guns. I recommend the 32 Degrees Terminator barrel (best reviewed barrel on this website) for only $36 at http://www.888paintball.com

thanks for backing me up on the tippmann issue you did exactly what i did when i got my tippmann and that was sell it right after you bought it none of these other people know what they are talkin about tippmanns are awful guns even if you are a new player spyders,pirahnas,etc... are so much better i am not a new player anymore but if i was i would want someone to tell me if i was about to buy a sh***y gun like a tipp 98 i played with my old spyder tl for a long time and never had problems and they are sooo easy to lube clean and maintain but strippin down a tippmann 98 after a day of play to lube and clean it is ridiculous even if parts didn't fly all over the place it still takes way too long to strip the gun for cleaning you can get a spyder 2000 for almost the same price as a tippmann but the spyder is 100 times better

p.s. good choice joel the pirahna sts is a great gun and now that you have experienced a good gun i bet you would never go back to a tippmann

(another p.s.)i am selling a red shutter email me at sawtan_the_great@altavista.com if you are interested (it comes with some aftermarket stuff and 2 co2 tanks)

Funny, it seems everyone who is recommending a better gun than a Tippmann has one for sale so you can buy it from them. ;o]

but I dont want to argue about it, if you want an easy to assemble gun or one that is close to 'foolproof' (I dont think there really is a foolproof gun) get something thats snap-together style. The Tippmann is more durable than those and perhaps longer lasting and the company has great customer service. There are lots of spyders and pirahnas so try them both out and pick whatever feels best. whatever you buy wont be your only gun if you stick with paintball much. you'll buy better guns eventually im sure.

PS: SAWTAN-THE-GREAT has a gun to sell you if you want one!

I have an M98 and yes it does have a design where it is difficult to get it all straight again but i think you've made an excellent choice. I put a sight on mine and ive shot away people with Shutters, SE's, and Piranhas. For an entry level gun it is great, especially because you can get the flatline and other drop-in kits. Im gonna get a GT Commando 2 (maybe) so if anyone can tell me about it e-mail me at jrvandam@home.com

Tippmans are great guns. their only drawbacks are that they tend to be difficult to take apart (so please be carefull) as for the slow rate or fire, the new RT up grade is about as fast as you can get without going to full auto. Swan is a 98 hater who takes every opportunity to flame 98 owners. hes just an ignorant a$$.

M98s are not slow, and they have a short trigger pull. My brother just got an RT mod on his m98, and I've dry fired it but not actually shot paint through it. It's sweet.
