What exactly is a powerfeed? Will it significantly increase the rate of fire or is it a waste of money?

A powerfeed is an elbow that has a hole(s) in it to allow excess gas that is discharged during firing to escape through the hole in said elbow. So instead of exerting an upwards force on the paintballs waiting to be fired, the gas will take the path of least resistance and exit through said hole(s). It will not SIGNIFICANTLY increase your ROF. It will allow the balls to drop faster. You dont need to buy one for your tippmann. You can make it. Just drill some holes in the elbow. (go to www.m98center.com they have instructions on how to do it.) However, the tippmann m98 and m98c elbows are not flush against the side of the marker. There is room there for gas to escape. But, it wouldn't hurt to make one anyway. I did it, didn't notice much, but it makes me feel good anyway knowing that I have it.

i have the pro-team power feed on my 98c. it helped it a lot. to increased my rof by atleast 3 balls. with the powerfeed, revvy, and a fast trigger finger, youve got a fast accurate gun that skips NO BALLS even without the revvy

Here's a method to find out whether or not a marker needs a powerfeed.

Take a little square of toilet paper, put it over the elbow, and fire the gun. If the square gets blown off, you'll benefit from a powerfeed. If it does nothing, or gets sucked in, it'll have no effect. My Tippmann sucks the paper in. Model 98 powerfeeds are totally useless.

wouldnt sucking in be good? Cuz the balls will be sucked in and feed much faster wouldnt they?

I don't get how the method works. Please explain why it works for you.

Shazaam, what I meant was a powerfeed would have no effect.

As for the method, here's a picture I took, hopefully that will help. What creates the vacuum to pull the paper in, I don't know. All I know is it gets sucked in on all three of the M98s I own

just a guess, but the sudden, forceful ejection of air (and paint and your propellant of choice) would create a lack of air in your chamber, also known as a vacuum. seeing as the only thing that sucks is a vacuum which is a lack of air, and it makes sense too, anyway thats why it would suck i think?

An elbow with holes in it is NOT a powerfeed. A powerfeed crosses over the top of the marker's chamber diagonally (from the left), then rights a right-angle turn into the breach. It is called a powerfeed because any gas pushing the balls up into the elbow push it straight into the side of the feed (because of the right angle) where they just stop or bounce back into the breach. Look at a picture of a PF Automag. That is a powerfeed. An elbow that allows balls to be pushed from the breach into the hopper is NOT a powerfeed, regardless of how many holes are in it.

What would it be called then? The lapco elbow in the pic that specter posted says 'power feed'. And the balls in that elbow would still make a right hand turn, and be blown against the side of the power feed by any blow back gasses. Correct me if I am wrong but I don't think it needs to cross the top of the breech at a 45 degree angle to be called a power feed. If you tilted the 98 to the left to make the elbow at a 45 degree slant, would that make it a power feed then? That would make it look an awfull lot like the automag pf. Please correct me if I am wrong. That is just what I was taught a power feed was, an elbow with a hole in it to allow blowback gasses to escape.

The first picture is of a powerfeed. It does make a 90 degree angle from the breach. The elbow in the second picture is a direct feed, and is perpendicular to the breach.

But again, both of these products have no purpose since blowback is not an issue on M98s.
