Why is it nessasary to degass Co2 tanks for storage?

From what I've heard, it's done so that there is not always stress on the tank and so that the metal doesn't become brittle.

how long are you storing it? I've never done that.
Just keep them room temp, seems to work fine for me.
mabye I'm wrong though (but I dont think so)
go ask the air system forum. check the faq sheet :) you'll get your anwser there prolly.
If you did that you could waste a lot of Co2
