I have an old style vertical max flow. Which way is the silver pin which sits in the top hat that touches the top of the spring supposed to go? Round side up or flat side up? Somehow I never noticed that it was asymetrical...
Also, does it matter which way the gold filter faces?
Thanks
gold filter-no, it doesnt matter which way.

Thanks. I used to have it the other way...would this cause me to get poor consistency? (+/-10)

actually the spring cap steel pin goes flat side down towards the flat bottom of the cup, rounded side up towards the rounded face on the gold piston. shouldn't really affect consistancy, but could damage the piston and cause bleed problems eventually.
no the filter doesn't matter, you don't even need it at all.
wow. ive been using it flat side up for the longest time. u know more than i do, ima go turn it over right now.

i'm not saying that because i know more than you, i'm just saying that because it fits better that way, since the bottom of the hat is flat and the bottom of the piston is cupped. and it always worked perfectly for me. and every impulse i have dealt with (i think every one) came to me that way.
you could always call sp, or maybe even the manual will have a good enough drawing.

The manual has a very vague illustration. It looks like one side is curved and one side is totally flat (it should be chamfered).

well nothing's perfect, especially not the impulse owners manual. sp kinda sucks in that department. so does bobby long. and orr. only companies that make good manuals i've seen are dye and wdp.
no, your right it goes rounded side towards he piston. i can tell yes because it fits better, and because theres a ring on the the top of the rounded part where the piston hole was (it just made a mark), because i never even took of that cap until a year into my imp.
