Was at the wap tourny and just wanted to let all you guys know who missed out
It was my first time at the feild, and my team couldnt play so i was there rooting on a buddys team, Electronic Funeral which took the whole tourny. They ended up maxing every game except two, one was in the finals when they put the 2 best teams against eachother and score was 9-6(or close to that) which almost kicked both of them out of the way for first.
The refs did a fairly good job compared to most tournys ive seen. Not all the refs checked the live players after the game for paint but most did. The feilds were layed out nicely, and was good that the sup air had netting around it for viewers with out mask, also the lego feild was on a hillside so spectators didnt have a problem with getting hit.
The service was really nice, they had people walking around talking to us make sure everything was ok. Real nice people. Shop also had lots of good prices on stuff like Proteus mask which i ended up buying 2, 1 being for my cousin for $50 each.
The only bad part about the whole thing was there wasnt Vert Feed cockers like promised, instead they got Air Systems and 5 cp angel threaded barrels and a trophy. wasnt WAP's fault on this because sinister was running the tourny.
They got a new tourny coming up so keep a look out

the weather was total luck saturday was freeeezing cold and windy, today its raining!!
the WAP people always do a good job,the whole family works there arse's off !!
for the most part, things went pretty well, we saw lots of teams
displaying super sportsmanship, but there were a few rotten apples as usual
one player throwing his marker after being shot in the jewels
by a nice young man from woodland (lol)
anyway cheers to WAP and good game ben!

Well I can say that the Sup Air field was nice but I didn't talk to many people that cared for the lego field. Most felt that it was too defensive a field which would explain alot of the games expiring on time.
I would agree that I have seen better and worse reffing. I was more disappointed in the lack of consistency. I watched refs talking to spectators and missing calls in the middle of games and then make awesome and correct calls in the next game. Mostly I saw refs not getting into where the calls needed to be made.
The field owner folks were super cool and pleasant. I feel bad for them since Sinister did not provide the prizes as promised as it reflects on there field even though it was beyond WAPS control.
Just to reflect on the numbers 23 teams-$200 a team (assuming pre-reg) =$4600 -Not all teams prereg so figure take @ $5k- I think we figured that they gave away roughly $1800 retail in prizes. That equates to roughly $1100 wholesale. Makes me wonder who got the Cockers.
Safety was very good and the event ran pretty much on schedule. The weather was awesome
Air supply was ok but only 3k fills and there was a problem w/ some tank fill nipples. But there were no lines and it was fast. The guys that had 45/45 got 4500 fills so they could play full games.
As for sportmanship I agree w/ splatterpunx- And would say my yelling at the refs for there inability to get into the game to make the calls to the list of stuff that wasn't that pleasant to see. And as always the competition was great.
I would rate the event a 6. I will go again as the field is nice as are the owners. As far as future Sinister events I would be suspect due to the lack of promised prizes. (not a flame just an opinion)

actually most of the teams did not pre-register so sinister banked
at 275 a team
i think everyone has the same series of complaints:
who knows were the money went because it did not go to prizes
(i hope WAP scored they deserve every penny)
air should have been included in the entry
they made a last minute decision to use the lego field,so all the teams who came to WAP to practice, practiced on hyper and
sup,kinda wasted time and $$
i think the reffing was ok,but they were running 2 different sets
of rules one on lego and one on sup
by combining the 2 classes they screwed the first time players
that were actually rookie's and not am players
ok so that all aired and those are my opinions
the WAP folks are top notch and we will continue to play there every weekend we can
but probbly not another sinister event

hehe, nice playing mike, i also agree w/ u guys, i did see some players not giving good examples to the younger players and yelling things around, but over all the tournement was great and yea the leggo did have alot of stalemates.

You have a few good points, especially about combining the Classes-For a few teams this was their first tourney. I talked w/ them and they were alittle disappointed but not completely discouraged.
I don't think WAP got anything but the exposure.
I know that the air fill system was totally seperate from both WAP and Sinister and that is why it was charged seperate. I think WAP will be buying a system soon and if they don't and they ask us to do the air again we will provide 4500 fills. We just didn't bring enough bulk tanks to promise it all day so we didn't offer. I already ordered the different fill nipple for those odd ones. (If you have an event and need air let me know)

i was just thinking about the players yelling and arguing w/ the reffs, it happens at probably 98% of the tourneys, just like in any sport, theirs always players that dont agree w/ calls or decisions made by reffs, but this shows us that paintball is a sport.

the flier we got from a primal guy seems to have run away
yea ben at tournys people allways argue and aswell as all the major sports, but because the future of paintball as a big sport

Due to the lack of interest in the amatuer division , this division was cancelled. Thus making this a rookie tournament. Autocockers were only to be won by the amatuer division, since this division was cancelled, so were the prizes for that division (since only two teams signed up for amatuer). Also 16 out of the 21 rookie teams prepaid the $200 entry by january 4. So if you do the numbers, after paying field rent, paying refrees (which did an outstanding job I might add) and purchsing rookie prizes. It does'nt make sense to give away almost $2000 just in autocockers when nobody was interested in playing that division in the first place. So if there was a misunderstanding by a few individuals who didn't know they were playing in a rookie tournament for the rookie prizes, then the guys from Sinister would like to apoligize. We would also like to take this time to thank all the teams that entered for a great day of paintball!

only 75 per team??? so like 25 per player???
thats a really good price.
ucjesus
01-22-2002, 07:35 PM
Yep, $25 a player- PAintball should be affordable-We haven't settled on prizes- Usually we look @ the following equation in relation to total entry per Division- 1st 60%, 2nd 25% and 3rd 10% and 4th 5% =100% of entry going to prizes
So if you have 10 open teams =$750 in prizes
1st gets approx. $450 in prize value
2nd gets $187 prize value
3rd gets $75 prize value
4th gets $37.50 prize value
If we get 20 beginner teams you can take the above numbers and apply that to that category alone.
All values are retail dollars.
The field makes money from paint sales and from air and by getting people out to see his fields the tend to come back since its cheap to play. Sometimes Value is more important than the prizes.
If you get 4th you can expect to get t-shirts. First could get you a compressed air tank. Get last and take it well and you may get half price off the next tourney entry. Come out and have some fun.
