View Full Version : Anti-Freeze?

I have a bunch of friends with Spiders and Parahnas and we play in temperatures of about 20 below! Their markers freeze up to the point where the cocking bolt can't even go forward fast enough! Would a few drops of anti-freeze in the ASA adapter help fix this problem and would it hurt the marker at all?

I doubt it. But why do you want to play when it's so damn cold anyway?

Well we love the sport and we don't want to have to wait until the fall to go play again! I play in any weather!

And what did you mean I dought it? Did you mean you dought it would work or you dought it would reck the gun?

I meant, it probably won't work. Sorry, should have clarified.

Still, anything less than 50*F is far too cold for my Texas blood.

Well I am in Canada so it is colder up here. I do think 20 below is cold but with a few layers of clothing im good to go!

Would the anti-freeze reck the marker? If not then I don't think my friends would mind at least giving it a try...

There is a pretty good chance that antifreeze may destroy the seals in your marker. Sure you could try it, but it's at your risk

Personally, I wouldn't try it. It may corrode some of your metals, and I'd give it more than a fair shot at eating through your o-rings.

Okay I will let my friends know it isn't such a good idea.

Do you guys know of any way they might be able to stop their markers from freezing up?

Do you have any way of filling nitro? Get an N2 tank.

I don't think so but I could ask around. Me and my friends play outlaw and the main store I go to I think only fills CO2 but there are some other stores I could check out!

Well, if your tanks are on bottomline, an anti-syphon tube will also help prevent your guns from freezing up. Beyond that, there comes a point where you'll just have to deal with a bit of freezing

In that temperature, I'd say that it's pretty much unsafe for you to use your gun in that temperature. As for Anti-freeze, I doubt it would do ANYTHING good, as for harm, I dunno.

Hell, the paint would freeze.

Thanks for all of the help guys.
About the balls freezeing you don't need to worry about that. The balls don't freeze up. If anything they just break more. (except winter balls)

if you insist in playing in weather like that... i suggest HPA

Even winter balls are going to be extremely brittle at that temp... I doubt you'd get many balls off before a break.

I'm Canadian too, and there's no way you'd get me out playing paintball at -20C. Not a chance. Not only is that too damned cold to be playing, but you'd be breaking balls, hoppers, elbows and anything else plastic... like MASKS! Not the lense, but the mask itself might crack. Besides that, anything battery operated (Revvys, e-frames, chronographs, etc) wouldn't work 'cause the batteries would freeze... not to mention the fact that LCD screens on the aforementioned gear would freeze (and possibly suffer permanent damage) because the "L" in "LCD" means LIQUID.

You'll also get frostbite very quickly, and you can't properly cover your face because of your mask... You could also possibly (but not likely) suffer hypothermia if you're sweating a lot.

-20 is too cold. Play inside or wait for spring.

And don't use anti-freeze... it's not safe. Yes, it'll eat your o-rings, but it could also poison you. It's VERY toxic and if you got paint spray through your mask (if it's in your marker it could get on the paintballs) into your mouth it could poison you. Effects are blindness and/or death.

BTW Chad is talking about -20 celcius, thats like 10F ?.. Its still really cold. I live in Newfoundland and well its usually -5 to -10 here...some nights it gets cold. In winter, and NO we dont have igloos...even the eskimo's live in houses, and they ride around on skidoos that the govenment give them, they dont even have to pay taxes, little buggers.

Antifreeze 1 will not keep your gun from freezing unless it's on a constant circulation and constanly replenished. Secondly it will eat your seals apart. I reccomend a palmers regulator. I believe there the ones that make the CO2 regulators that are the bomb. But N2 will always be the best way to go.

I play in 20degree weather as well but with CA and polars.

The best way is to make sure that the liquid co2 stays out or your gun. Look at these people. They do fast, cheap, quality work.
