Sorry if this has posted before, but I haven't seen it yet. The 98 Cyclone is almost here. $65 from Action Village when it is in stock.

i think its going to look weird on the 98... but it will sure perform better on the gun.. or hopefully anyway.. but now my a-5 isnt better then the 98.. oh wait yes it is, lighter trigger, smaller, not as long.
still pretty good idea for tippmann, now they just need to offer the a-5 in left or right side cyclone feed, id prefer left side.

 Exactly. Nobody knew precisely when it was coming out or the exact price. I assume that the Cyclone will be available very soon if they have their ad ready. Now all we need is a picture to see what it looks like. I see some changes on the horizon for the A-5, possibly a lower price. Since the Cyclone is only $65, A Custom Pro Basic w/ Cyclone is $225. Same as the A-5 for a better package. The Custom Pro-E would be about $275 w/Cyclone. A much better deal then the A-5 w/ E-grip.
I still prefer my field strip design of the A-5 over the 98 or Custom Pro.
To me that's well worth how ever much more it costs.
Then again I don't pay for this stuff so I can't comment :D

you tell it like it is meph :D
and man you guys gotta stop *****ing about ur a5s and stuff man..... people buy the m98 over the a5 all the time......
Why? cuz all the a5 has over the 98 is:
faster field stripping
a plastic grip frame (not good)
better flatline (most ppl dont want one)
cyclone feed
a few design differences that dont matter
lighter stock trigger spring (that you dont even need to have on a m98)
so thats 110 dollars more for a cyclone feed now valued at 65. A trigger spring thats lighter (easily fixed free of charge on the 98 by removing the 98 trig spring) and faster stripping (easily obtained in a 98 by doing a quick strip mod, also doesnt cost money)
the only time I would ever THINK of buying an a5 is if I suddenly want a decent flatline and egrip and pay 450 plus for it

For those who haven't seen the 98 Cyclone, this is some older pictures from Warpig. I had forgotten about the pictures; They are in the middle of the page. It says it was scheduled to be released in July. I guess that Tippmann is about right on time.

niice, just loooks a bit ugly on the tippy cuz its too fat and the 98's a bit skinny....

nice alternative for rt use other than buying a warpfeed, halo b, or a qloader

You need a hopper that's made specifically for the Cyclone. The Ricochet R5 is a good, cheap option. A Cyclone hopper has like a twist-lock system to secure it. A regular 200rd hopper will not work.

No, the standard R5 doesn't have a rubber interior. It is, in fact, a very load hopper. The plastic is thin and hard, making paint rattle. There is a "sniper" version that quiets it down, but it costs more.
John Sullivan

ive never seen r-5s with the rubber inside.canyou buy it seperately?i love my new r-5.
TheSpy11

They make a foam liner to help quiet the R5 down. They can be found on eBay and can be purchased seperately as an add-on to the R5.

I'm certain that it will. You can't see through it, so the lid is the only way to check your paint level. I'm afraid that you're out of luck this one Sullivan. :( I have the black R5 and so I might look into getting one.
John Sullivan
07-18-2005, 01:55 PM
that sucks.they should make a clear liner so that in the smoke r-5s you could still see through it.

Any word on when they will be released? Tippmann said that it would be this month.

Last I heard Tippmann is shipping them on July 25th. That means we should have them around the 27th or 28th. AV is probably selling at MAP too, so that will likely be the going price.
I'm not sure if it comes with the standard A5 Hopper, but if it does you should be able to get about 200 balls in there.
The Pro Team Low Profile TAC Cap should also fit, so you can reduce your profile even more.

as for the centerfeed and the eggy, thas like $120-130. i would rather spend $54 and get a reliable 15 bps and use the money for something else like paint. plus i wont need batteries. and as for getting an egg w/ no centerfeed, i was told that the elbow on the 98c limits the feeding to around 13 bps. overall, the cyclone is going to b a great upgrade for the 98c owners. smart move for tippmann.

Review:
Appears to work like the A5 cyclone, how or why i do not yet know, but one things for sure, it will attach to a tippmann 98 elbow. Also it appears to work off of un used gas sort of like the a5 version, which is still a mystery to most. There are pictures of T fitting as seen on A5 cyclones with response triggers so from what i gather it will work with a T fitting for 98 response triggers. WOW I DIDN'T SEE THAT ONE COMING
conclusion:
Wait for the "In stock" light to glow.

This thread is retarted. If you want a review for a 98c cyclone just look at the A-5 Cyclone. There the same.
ghilliesnipe
08-07-2005, 09:56 AM
It isnt exactly the same. From what I learned from Meph, the A5 cyclone/rt runs off of blowback gas. The 98 cyclone/rt runs straight from the valve. This causes a slight difference in timing, so they had to raise the 98cyclone by one ball diameter higher than the A5 cyclone. This means there is a one ball "stack" with the 98 cyclone while there is no stack at all with the A5.
I'm not sure what this will mean performance-wise(chopping, misfeeding, gas consumption). Im interested in hearing some good unbiased reviews.

OK, since you actually have one (and after reading your review), I'm wondering if you could compare the A5 cyclone with this one? Is it actually higher (I'd love it if you'd measure the new cyclone, and post actual dimensions :D)? Are there any other differences between the two?
Also, how does it compare with, say, a standard gravity feed/electric hopper (as in height, width from the marker) when it's on the marker? The only thing that could possibly give me some concern is if it adds much to the 98c's profile (bigger target). Does it add much weight to the marker (say over and above what an electric hopper would)?
Finally, what sort of modifications are necessary to install the cyclone on the 98c?
Thanks.
paintballdog123
08-07-2005, 03:42 PM
well its a little different than a A5 and havent really compared with a a5 but im pretty sure the feed necks a lil bit longer.. like half an inch?? and i dont have my marker on me right now its at my cabin which i go to like every half month or so, so i can give u measurements... im sorry...:( compared to a standard gravity feeder id say its well... bigger... but it feeds a lot faster than it... since the gravity feeder doesnt have any like screwed or knobs and pullys attatched to it that takes up extra space its not as big... compared to a electric hopper.. the electric hopper still a lil bit smaller because the feed necks not as thick... the cyclone does add some width to the marker because it sticks out on the side.. imo i dont think it really adds a bigger target.... its pretty much the same as a normal hopper except it adds a lil bit of plastic at the side and the hopep that comes with is a lil odly shaped like all a5 hoppers but u can get a r5 so its all good.... as for what modifications are neccesary im not really getting what ur asking.....u mean what tools u need to install?? all th tools u need are in hte maintenence pack u get when u get gun.. if you have any mroe questions ask away im pretty sure i covered all that u asked

Thanks. That does give me a general idea. I'd still appreciate it if you take a measuring tape with ya next time you head out to the cabin *grin*.
As for 'modifications, I was assuming it had to be hooked up to the powertube of the marker in some way...but since I've never actually seen one for the 98c, I really have no idea.

Paintballdog123's grammar is poor, but he more or less speaks some truth. When he says it is a 1/2 inch taller, well that more or less corresponds to a .68 of an inch paintball.
If you have a basic non-rt 98c, then you will need the RT type power tube and have to go through changing powertubes(for a beginner, it is a royal PITA)(Pain in the A**). You will get through it with some patience, intelligence and sobriety(in my case).

i just got mine and installed it today because i was gone all week. i will have a full report tomorrow after my tourny because i am currently out of air for the night. so tomorrow be ready for a thorough review. based on looks, it does make the right side of the gun an enormous target, but we shall see how it works tomorrow.

alright. i actually got some air tonight from a friend. we fired about 250 rounds in my backyard like 1/2 hr ago. the cyclone was doing fine. i had my egrip on semi, but we found the sweetspot and maxed it out. there were some breaks, but i think its do the crappy paint. also, the board is faster than the cyclone, so there might have been some chops. i am not sure. overall, i am very pleased. i want to see tomorrow how much of a difference it makes, so i will post after the tourny again.

they cyclone performed great in conjunction with my e-grip. my tourny was limited to semi, and people with shockers were in awe after seeing my tippmann shoot. the cyclone keeps up great. i only had a few probs. the paint i had was worrpaint practice paint, and it sucked. there was a lot of humidity, and the balls would swell and get caught in the bolt. the cyclone, however, on the custom pro can be tilted to the side for an easy quick fix to this prob. it does not really make it much more of a target. i got hit in the hopper once, and it bounced off my bunker. basically it was a great investment to any 98c or custom pro owners. my friends are all planning on getting them.

All this 98 Cyclone talk has me wanting my old 98c.:( I probably would have kept it if the 98 Cyclone would have come out a year sooner.

Should be, but don't take my word 100%. I don't think Tippmann would throw that in there if it didn't work though.

We now have a comprehensive thread, from the very first news about the 98C Cyclone on through release and hopefully some reviews. Not that we don't already know what it's going to do or anything.
If you post another separate thread on this I'm going to be a little bit miffed.
Read me? Good.
I could of sworn i was the first to bring news about the 98 cyclone. meh, whatever.

you have to take your valve out of your current powertube. then you just shove it into the new PT and you're good to go.

Just do it in an area that little parts can be seen if something does happen.

the valve should not fall apart on you. the pieces should stay put in the valve. just be gentle when pushing it out of the old PT and into the new PT.

A little bit of sealant never hurt anything in a gas operated system. If you're just going to be fiddling I'd try it without, you can always put it on later. If you are going to be using it in a game, def put sealer on there and be done with it.
A bit of teflon tape, or the lightest grade Loctite(blue, I think there's one under blue as well) will do you just fine in that respect.
