I can't help you with question one but I can help you with #2.

You can use a hacksaw to cut a straight line on the head of the screw so you can use a flathead screwdriver. A dremel will also work. Another way is to buy a stripped screw removing kit from most hardware stores.

I've tried the flat head screw thing and a hack saw isn't going to work, but do they really sell stripped screw removal kits?

#1: a board is fried by an electrical circut shorting out, very often destroying the circut and "frying the board". this can be caused by a variety of things, moisture, contaminates being present on the board, and an excess of voltage are the most common reasons for short-outs and boards frying.
tl;dr: keep your electronics clean and make sure your batteries aren't providing too much power for them to handle.

#2: the two most common ways of removing stripped screws are to either drill a tiny hole into the screw, thread said hole with a tap, insert/loctite in a screw threaded for the hole, and remove the stripped screw by twisting the drilled in screw. it is advisable to use red loctite, not blue for this method. method #2 is to use a saw or dermel to cut a space for a flathead screwdriver to fit in, and then twist the screw out.

Why not? Worked fine on my gun.
