Hi, i don't know if this is customary, but i just bought an A-5 E-Grip Marker from the Badlands Proshop in Calgary (i'm actually from Toronto). I wish to welcome myself to this section of the PBR forums i have never treaded into before. First off, is there anything in paticular i should do to my A-5 before taking it out on the field? I already read most of the manual, and i'm assuming you should oil the marker before taking it out and batteries were included. Can i lube the marker or should i stick with oil? Is there anything i should be aware of? I will use HPA with it if that makes a difference. Also, i noticed the bolt cocking rod is kinda loose...like it wiggles. Is that normal? I feel like a noob for asking all these questions, but i'm used to operating spyders and clones...not tippmanns whatsoever. Any info would be greatly appriciated! If this is in violation of the rules, plz take it down and let me know so i wont do it again. Thanks

I dont know abou the cocking thing, but you should oil it the first time you shoot it. Also I would get a JCS trigger.

Yea I second the JCS trigger, and also I would recommend a new barrel, possibly a flatline if your budget allows. Put some oil on it and you should be fine. The great thing about Tippys is that you can abuse and use them and they'll keep shooting paint.
The cocking rod- does it wiggle like up and down or what? There's a little bit of space on the top and bottom of the cocking handle so that could be it.
Be sure to bring batteries with you, just in case and you're set. And welcome to our forum!

Thanks guys (and possibly gals?). I'll look into the JCS Trigger, and at the moment the Flatline won't be affordable. The Cocking handle (sticks out on the opposite side of the loader i think) on the outside of the gun just wiggles up and down a tiny bit, im just wondering if thats normal. Current Upgrades im looking into incude a replacement grip for the front grip, most likely the one done by Spec-Ops, resembles the one found on the Pro-Carbine. Also maybe this JCS Trigger and obviously a new barrel, but i am undecided about which to get. Thanks for the input and any more thoughts/suggestions/info is more than welcome. :)

I myself am a guy, and so is Raleigh, as far as I know
The cocking handle wiggle is normal, or we both have the same problem. But don't worry about it.
I would recommend a J&J Ceramic barrel, it is a very accurate barrel and will quiet your gun a bit.

Yeah I would get the JJ ceramic or a Lapco Bigshot. And yes, Im a guy.

The cocking knob wiggle is completely normal and nothing to worry about.

As far as upgrades: barrel first, then JCS.

Welcome kjpmkjp
I would recommend that you play first for a day or 2 then decide what you need.
If you want more accuracy, then HPA+regulator+(maybe) LPK. If you want more distance, then flatline or apex barrel.
Learn to use the search feature, and read the stickies.

For the A5, you really wont need more than one good aftermarket barrel, so dont just rush in to some $40(US) barrel like the J&J ceramic.

Here is a short, incomplete list of people who really know their stuff, Coenen, Eryk, Eladamri, Greedy(havent seen him in way too long), xjnation, Yakitori, (who am I forgetting?)

Just put 2-5 drops of oil in the ASA and screw in your tank, then take off the barrel and fire 10 shots. That will pretty much cover your oiling needs. The cocking knob will wiggle. Once you take your marker apart completely(clamshell it), you will know why.

welcome to the forum, swing by the A5 owners group www.a5og.net and tell them hummerking sent you. probly one of the coolest place filled with the nicest, most knowlegable people on the net.

remember washer fisrt then the oring, the tombstone holds it all in place. if u don't know wat this means u soon will. just a friendly reminder from ur buddies at the A5OG.

go with a 12 or 14 inch J&J ceramic (depending on ur playing style) oil ur marker b4 each game and clean it out after everyother case of paint(thats wat i do at least) take care of ur marker and she will love u long time! since ur using HPA ur off to a good start i would reccomend a nice regulator to get the maximum proformance out of ur marker(aka ball on ball consistancy) and if u have the egrip deffintly get the JCS duel trigger.

if u have any other questions or bothered to read this far don't hesistate to send me a PM with ANY questions.

Ya, i tried the Psychoballistics Double Trigger, but that didn't work...it wouldn fire at all so i just returned it. I got a Spyder Barrel adaptor so i can use a Progressive or my Empire 4-pc kit. I still havent played with it (im on vacation still) but i've taken it apart and put it back together numourus times (trying to get the trigger to work) so i at least know where everything goes, what not to lose, etc. Ah...i feel like such a noob (is this what happens every time u get a new type of marker?) Right now, i might not bother with a double trigger as i can fire fast enough on semi with-out it.

Believe me, you would love the JCS. It's a very sweet trigger and well worth the money. You would fire soooo much faster on semi with the JCS.

Anyways, the JCS with a trigger stop and penspring rocks. Very walkable. Not DM5 walkable, but good nonetheless.

Awesome, that sounds great. I wasn't expecting something like a DM5, if it fires half decently im happy, but right now it seems to shoot allright, so i'll save my money. I bought this marker looking for something that would be good for scenario games, as i may be able to drive to more places now (ie get a real/legal liscense). Any thoughts on what would be helpful to make it look/act/feel more scenario like?

A stock, remote, barrel shroud, gas thru mag, the possibilities are endless with Tippys. Check out Spec Ops Paintball (www.specopspaintball.com) for good scenario upgrades. They know their stuff.

 i say get a flatline u should save for it , get the new special opps stock which allows u to loo down the sight line check it out,get and remote, and if u like the affect get an sight know higher than 40 mm probly:crazy:

Dont get a sight. Sights are useless in paintball. A folding stock would be good.

As far as sights go, most will say they are useless. Of the few that say they are usefull, most will say get a reddot, which has no magnification, and I will say get a reddot or a low magnification scope(3X or less), but only with a flatline or Apex(according to what I have heard) barrel because of the flat trajectory.

Ok, i think i've decided mostly on what i'm gonna do with this new toy of mine.

JCS Trigger
Flatline (when i can afford it) and at the moment i can just slap on any spyder barrel i got. If the flatline doesnt work, i may go for that new barrel system on Specops, the FOG system or something.
Offset sight rail (any one i can find)
A5-A2 foregrip
SAW stock or just an adjustable one, doesnt matter which i dont think for now.
Are the Bolt/Powertube upgrades any good and worth my 40US bucks?
My neighbour is givin me a 4x scope i can use for looking down the field (YES i know u dont attempt to aim with them lol)

This is gonna be one heck of a project and i know i'll add more to that list sooner or later (Time to put my Spyder aside)

You will not see a substancial difference by replacing the front bolt or powertube. Some aftermarket replacement bolts and powertubes actually have worse performance. Here is a pretty descent comparison (http://www.a5og.net/vforum/showthread.php?t=5263) that is worth reading.

I would recommend the Shocktech Superfly bolt to you. I love mine. Increases accuracy. Having said that, bring on the flames :pissed:

Well, i went out to Sniper'z Paintball today...first the place is awesome and i got to shoot the A-5 fully stock but with Co2. The accuracy is horrible, but i bet i can fix that easily with tinkering or a new barrel and a reg. The one thing botherig me however, was that the marker couldn't fire very fast. I could fire it basicaly fine on semi, but im i changed the modes to Rebound or anything like that, it would fire properly. It would fire on the second half of the trigger pull, ramping was slow, full auto acted like burst and only fired three shots (burst acted normally though). Anyone know whats going on there?

John Sullivan

From what your saying it sounds like you need a new battery. Try that and if that doesn't work you might need to contact Tippmann.

08-27-2005, 09:14 PM
Ramping? I didn't even know that was a setting on the E-trigger.

Heehee. A5OG. I got kicked out in seven hours.

Don't bother getting the F.O.G. and the A5-A2 foregrip. Just get one, and if you get the F.O.G., take off the stock handle.

Your correct, there isn't a ramping setting on the E-grip. He might have meant the turbo setting.

John Sullivan
08-28-2005, 12:34 PM
That's got to be what he's talking about. That's what I used until I installed my JCS.

08-28-2005, 03:00 PM
Ramping/Turbo...same thing :dodgy: I'm used to mechs so i never used many settings other than the age old SEMI! Yeah, i think replacing the battery should fix it altogether. I'm not gonna bother with the foregrip, i might just add a darned regulator to the A-5, make it more consistent. Well, thank ya all for ur help on this. I think i'm gonna love my new baby :)
