View Full Version : 98c Valve qc issues

Me and a buddy recently purchased 98c's (about 2 months ago). We upgraded the barrels first then decided to go for a response and cyclone. He brought his gun into the local shop and I did mine myself.

The strange thing is that both valve securing bolts (the two bolts on the right hand side of the gun that hold the valve locked to the frame and power tube) on his gun stripped the threads out of the valve while he was playing. The proshop dude must have over tightened them and they stripped out.

I went install my response and stripped the treads out one of the two also. I snugged it up with the hand tools provided by tippmann without reefing on it and it stripped out the threads. What gives? Are the valves really that weak? Or is tippmann having some qc issues?

I'm thinking it should be covered under warranty. I should be able to take my valve out to oil it occasionally without stripping threads all the time...

the valve is just made with really relaly soft aluminum.

the valve screws on the side arent made to be removed on a regular basis. the more u do it, the more prone you are to stripping them.

if you want to oil your valve, you can

a) open the recievers and drop some oil into the valve pin area

b) drop some oil into the asa and that will oil the internals of your valve

i would just go with b as it is the most efficient way :)

as for your valve, you can either re-tap a bigger thread into it, or try to get a hold of another one.

good luck.

I just bought another valve. Went together great. On another note I got the cyclone and respose trigger in together. You DO need a t fitting kit btw. That includes:
1 x t-fitting
1 x regulator for the r/t
1 x attachment to the cyclone
1 x 2.25" hose
1 x 1.25" hose - This hose is farking short btw. Almost too short
1 x flow regulator - a tiny metal cylinder to slide into the 1.25" hose so your cyclone uses less air.

So I have it all working but unfortunately I have a leak. I didn't have much time to check where it was as I test fired it this morning before work (to allow the locktight to dry). I'm reasonably sure it's where the air hose comes in through the powertube to the valve assembly though. Sigh time to take it all back appart. I'll post pics when I get it together.
