What is the purpose of this mod to the A5?
And where can I get more info on it?
Also what is the FPS for a stock A5 and most paintball guns?
Adjusting the velocity screw is that the only way to increase or decrease your FPS?
And when you back out your velocity screw how do you keep it from falling all the way out during play?

What mod are we talking about?
FPS is whatever the velocity screw is set to. Usually guns come out of the box at too high of a velocity. On a stock A-5, the velocity screw is the only way to adjust velocity. The velocity screw will not back out becuase the correct setting for the screw is at least 2/3 of the way in.

You never said what Mod you speak of.
The FPS of most paintball guns is less than 300 depending on the field where you play. Some fields are 280fps, and I've played in Indoor where it was 240 IIRC. It's not different for different guns as your question implys, it's set by the governing bodies of paintball and insurance companies for saftey.
Since the FPS is dependant on how much CO2 pressure propels it, and the pressure of CO2 changes depending on your temperature, your FPS depends on the temperature. As TheSpy said, about 2/3 is usually close, but if it's really hot out, you might be 4/5 in. If you play in the really cold, you might want to back it out as far as you can. So it really depends on temperature and you need to check it every time when you play, and every few hours incase the temperature changes throughout the day.
There are a few other ways to change your velocity of your marker. The easist is by getting a regulator. Then instead of blocking the flow of gas to slow the paintball down, you lower the amount of gas pressure that is avalible to propel the ball.
Or, you can get a Rear Velocity Adjuster which allows you to adjust how hard the hammer hits the valve and therfor how much the valve opens and how much CO2 is released with each shot.
You can also change your velocity by cutting a few coils from your main spring. This is done a lot of times on new markers if they cannot be brought down to correct velocity using traditional methods. I would suggest an airsmith to do this one for you. You don't want to cut off too much.
As for how to keep it from falling out, teflon tape.

The purpose of penspring mod is to make your trigger pull lighter.
