Im a newbie here and i've been reading all the reviews i can. ive come to the conclusion that the spyder compact is probably my best bet. so i found this place where they will sell me a used spyder compact, 12 gram co2 tank, hopper and mask for 230 candian. the gun and all that has only been used for a moth and he'll fix it if anything happens for free. is this a good deal? or should i consider something else??

by 12gram co2 I hope u mean 12oz co2 those are 2 different things...

I'm not sure of the exchange rate but I know you can get a new spyder compact for about $90, a 12oz tank for $20, and a plain old hopper for about $5...

what mask is it tho?

thats about $110 american, NEW, not counting the mask

depending on wether or not it has any upgrades, you could probably find it for slighty cheaper (i think canadian to american is like 2:1? not sure tho)

dude, I know ur new and want a gun to call ur own. WAIT ABOUT BUYING ONE!!! Save up to get a cheap electro ( I can get u a EM-1 new for $250 american) also save for a N2 tank so u can play in the winter( plus its colder than well diggers rump in canada anyway so get a 68-88ci tank, agian I can get u a 68ci/3K Steel tank for $109). Also, GET GREAT GOGGLES!!! I have a $100 pair that took me a month of saving and christmas to get but thats ur most important piece of equipment!! U can t hit what u cant see. Get a X-wind fan, their better than Vortex. Flex-7s are good and the Proteus are good too, I have the proteus.

spyder x-tra.........they are so simple i can take EVERY nut, bolt, screw, & part out of mine and re-assemble in like 6 minutes

plus the x-tra comes pretty stocked.........like with a drop, bottom line, x-chamber...........while with a compact you will need all that stuff plus the gun so it will be like the same price

weekend before last I saw a kid buy an X-tra, brand new still in package, and he put a 12oz tank on it and bought half a case of paint, loaded it up, and went to crono it. The first shot he took sent the bolt flying out of the with the metal rod that connects it to the stricker right behind it. Sam, the owner, said that that was the third one of them break when the first got it. He sent all of them back to the factory and they wont even talk to sam about it. So I dont encourage anyone getting an X-tra, and if u say that that was just a "Bad Batch" then the everyone of the X-tras are a bad batch.

U can get what I have, its $180 american + shipping, go here:My Review of the Black Dragun (http://www.angelfire.com/dc/siresswest/bderv.html)

by the way, I have striped it down, cleaned a choped ball in it, lubed it, and put it back together in LESS than 6 min. It has a quick strip pin on it. Also the bolt, rear cocking, doesnt kick back when its fired, so no broken goggle lenses.

Hey Twisted- How do you say that every Xtra is bad when you have no idea. I have had my Xtra for almost a year with no problems whatsoever. Any gun will work if you take care of it. Geez...

I heard that spyders dont come pre-oiled? could that have caused the break?
Ya i read your thread ebonclaw! it was really informative! thats basically why i decided to go for the spyder!

Your right, not every one of them may be bad. But with the experience that I have had with them is like I said. + the customer service reps wouldnt talk to Sam so what would a N00b do when it broke :confuse: ?? He would have to pay an air'smith to fix it.:|

HEY, GVG, Spyders do not come from the factory oiled.

buy oil, its a great thing that you really need. dont get an electronic gun, ur a newbie, no offence, just get a spyder or something, ur just goofing around with ur friends so no need to go 13 bps (balls per second) on them

lookin to toy around with something, just buy that spyder compact then. anyone disagree, just think of the time way back in the day that all u wanted to do was go play paintball with ur lowend blowback, thats wat GVG wants to do, so dont say he shouldnt, if ur offended, sorry, just got to remember that lowtechs have been and will b here to stay

go for it, any spyder is built to last i think, never once had a problem with mine and ive had it for a loooooooong time, just treat it good by oiling it and wat not & it should work fine for years, if u ever have problems with it and dont know wat to do, set up a forum and smart people like me,LOL:laugh: will help ya out

Myth 1: Spyders do not come luricated.
Truth: All Kingman markers come lubricated, but many people disassemble their new marker time after time (until they can do it blindfolded), and this causes the oil to wear away.

Myth 2: Spyders are newbie guns.
Truth: As of this exact moments there are quite a few pros and ams playing with, you bet it, the Kingman Spyder line of markers. They are highly upgradable and very reliable, not to mention ready-to-shoot straight out of the box.

Myth 3: Spyders shoot hot, always.
Truth: When you receive your Spyder, it should be chroned from anywhere as low as 260-305fps. That is not hot, but hot it will get if you leave it out in the sun. Its not the gun thats hot, but the CO2. If you use a HPA setup, these problems can be avoided, as well as buying a CO2 or HPA regulator (see Feb. 2002 APG).

Myth 4: Spyders chop balls like crazy.
Truth: In over a year-and-a-half of owning mine, ive only chopped 2 paintballs, and I play novice.

Last but not least, I really think the Xtra is your best bet, though a Shutter can be had for $5 more. If you can afford it, go for it. I wouldn't risk a used marker personally.
