I plan on getting an Odyssey 02, but, my firends have Ions, and I've never shot an 02 before so I need some info about it's performance. How is it compared to an Ion, also, how much does it weigh?

Performance wise it is similiar to a Timmy because it's method of operation is the same. Ion's and O2's are similiar in price range and performance so a lot of it depends on personal preferences. Ion's are low profile, blow forward, O2's have a stacked tube design and are electropneumatic. If at all possible, try both markers before deciding. There may be things about each marker you love, or even hate. When I tried and Ion for instance, I was amazed at its lightweight but hated the trigger and the plastic shell. The O2 was slightly heavier but to me had a great feel and the trigger was great. Also, with a tank and full hopper, a few ounces ain't going to matter.

Here's a few facts to help you get thinking about which gun you want:

O2:

Runs flawlessly on Co2
Stacked tube e-pneum design
Clamping feed neck
Delron bolt

Ion:

Best on HPA, can run on aint-siphon but.....not a good idea
Single tube blow forward design

Here are a few things they have in common:

Low pressure
Lightweight
Very small amount of kick
Effecient (sp? my comp is to stupid to be able to use the spell check)
Accurate when stock (with good paint of course)

As for an exact weight I am not sure...I think around 2.6-2.8 pounds. Don't quote me on that though. Anyways good luck, either gun is great, hope it works out for you either way. Check my sticky/other sticky's for more info and search around some, you should find some usefull info. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask, I'm glad to help, and theres quite a few knowledgable people in the Dragun/Odyssey forum.

I would recommend the O2 over the ION, I'd rather be the outlaw than a sheep.

One item that is different between the markers is the O2 has bounce-beam eyes and the Ion has break-beam. The eye system in the O2 is the same as the one in the O3X I used to have and it broke a few balls in the breech and had a difficult time "seeing" dark-shelled paint. My Ion has never chopped a ball out of over 5 cases and "sees" all shell colors. The Ion feels smaller and lighter, but as stated before, you should try both to see what feels best to you.

Forget about the eyes...good point a031363. The O2's bouncebeam eyes can have a hard time seeing dark paint, like dark blue or black. As long as you don't have really dark paint you should be okay but it is another thing to keep in mind. A force feed hopper like an egg or halo will get rid of almost all chops to begin with.

Who ever sells dark shell paint doesn't know crap, you sell stuff people want to buy. Why would you want to buy from an idoit?

Reasons to get an ION:

1: ION has TONS less kick. A 02 you have to upgrade just to get around the kick that an stock ION has. Once you upgrade the bolt on an ION it has even less kick.

2: ION has selections of grips...02 doesn't have ANY selection of grips. (I am going to modify my trigger frame to accept them.)

3: Ions are half as quiet as a 02.

4: Ions cycle faster than an O2 (with aftermarket board)

5: This time the sheep are going in the right direction.

Reasons to get an O2.

1: Orginal/pretty rare (might be a bad thing just in case you need it fixed by a proshop)

2: Since it is a dbl tube body, just like a timmy or a blowback, it has soo many different upgrades it makes your mind increase brain power just thinking about all the stuff you can do to it.

3: Its fun modifing it. You can turn it into a timmy for less than buying a timmy.

Ok. IMO get the Ion. Heres why.

1 - its got breakbeams
2 - Its got ramping

Im not definately not a fan of ramping. But alot of people like it and my guess is you will to. Also, you might want to consider of RPM

breakbeams aren't any better than bouncebeams in general. I don't know how good the ion's eyes are but I know if you get a t-board with bouncebeam its just as good as any other eye.

the new rex guns(odysseys)have anti-chop bolts and bounce beam eyes
