Well, the very first one was a "marking pistol", so um, markers I guess. Plus it's good to be in the habit of saying marker in case you're in public next to some police officers. If you say 'gun', *boom*, all attention is on your words now. It's like waving a giant yellow flag. Marker isn't one of the mentally flagged words that make people go "Whoa, what was that again?" Anyway, the fewer questions I have to answer, the better off I am.

It depends who I'm talking to. If I'm with my paintball friends or just paintball people I'll call it a "marker", but if I'm with my non-paintball friends or with newbies, I'll just call it a "gun" to save having to give an explanation every time. :D

I only call it a marker when I dont want people to say on, what are you doing it is a marker not a gun.
It's like rock or ball in basketball.
What is it with me and basketball things tonight?

Marker, gun, paintball gun, paintgun, electro, pump, semi, specific gun name, what else do I call them?
During a research class in school one time, my teacher caught me looking up pictures of "Bushys". I clicked a picture and then she looked at it, scowled and said "You shouldn't be looking at pictures of guns". I started to explain it was a paintball "marker" to save my *** but she was confused and gave me detention anyways.

ok the whole marker thing is to keep from upsetting anti-gun anti-violence fanatics. the probleme here is that these ppl are fanatics, which means they don't care what you call them. They try to get waterguns off the shelves at toy stores, to get kids expelled from elementary school for bringing gi joes or using "finger guns" on the playground. When we try to use semantics to stop their assaults to them it only makes us look more sinister. I know my aunt is the leader of on of these groups in the area. She is a nut just like any fanatic, and does not deserve to have her idea valadated in anyway. They are air guns just like bb guns markers are something you use to make posters..

I use gun around my friends, but I use marker around my parents and adults to make paintball seem a little less 'violent'....yes I know, pball isnt violent at all, but they seem to think that the word 'gun' is synonymous with 'killing people'....

When I'm talking to people who aren't paintballers, and thus possible sources of critisizm, I refer to it as a marker.
But when I'm around other players I call it a gun. It's just easier to say gun.

Let's face it guys, hunters call their guns "guns" and they're in no danger of having their rifles taken away by the government. The most they'll get is the standard "anti gun activists" crap, which paintball will have to deal with no matter what we call our "oil based color filled gelatin capsule propelling devices."
 "oil based color filled gelatin capsule propelling devices."

Well shoot, we should probably change "glue gun" and "staple gun" too. That way hobbyists and construction workers can continue their jobs free of political harassment.......lessee...we can call it
"holding substance projecting device" and a "metal piece insertion repeater"

First of all hunters call their guns "guns" because they are guns! Second, they're in no danger of having their guns taken away because they have a Constitutional Right to own them.
We however have no Constitutional right to own paint markers, so if enough people in your city or county voted to ban paint "guns", they could!
I'm not saying calling them "markers" will prevent that of course, but if all paintball players showed the public that they don't consider their markers to be associated in any way with weapons of a destructive nature by calling them "markers" and not "guns", it might change a few opinions. (It has changed several opinions in my debate class already.)
Whoa, that 2nd to the last sentance sounds a little wierd, but I'm sure you guys get the idea. :blah:

Definitely marker....If we say, uh, AHHHHHHHH gun :| then people get the idea that we act like army guys or something and want to blow people's heads off without actually doing it.

I say gun cuzz I dont play with markers I play with guns. My definition of gun is an object that propels another object at high speeds.

Compared to most firearms, 300fps isn't much at all.

Ditto.
"they're in no danger of having their guns taken away because they have a Constitutional Right to own them."
In many cases, the people who hate paintball are the same ones who hate firearms and they don't care what the Constitution says. They are always working at their goal of creating a society that has neither and they are making progress.
