schild, some tips:
Try and make the lines smoother.. it looks quite 'scribbled' and messy. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but try and neaten it up and be more precise. Try and be more 'fluid' with your shading. There are no white gaps in real life, try not to leave them in drawings (unless that area is reflecting light)
What pencil did you use, an HB? I use a 2H for sketching, an HB for the basic shading and then a putty rubber for light areas/2B for shadow. Give better contrast, I find
The eye on your first drawing is drawn how we'd see it from the front, but the head is sideways. Eyes viewed from the side look triangular, not almond shaped
edit: another thing i noticed.. in the first picture, you've put 'PANTBALL' on his sleeve. Now, I'm pretty sure it doesn't say that on his jersey irl. Also, is it outlined in black or is it just white text? If it's just white text then it should be shown by the colour/tone of the jersey around it, not by lines :)
I'm no artist, really, this is just stuff I've found out through trial and error. Someone else'll be able to give you far better advice i should think :)
Good luck

lol, sorry :P i'm hoping schild'll heed my advice and get even better. The talent is obviously there, it just needs refining. Practice, practice, practice. I try to practice every day and I'm a looong way off being considered a good artist. :)
schild: I'm 16, I'd try to sell a few if there were any big events near me. I'm in the UK so getting to any NPPL/PSP events is out of the question :P I guess I could do the 4 hour or so journey to Campaign Cup next year though lol

Schild: Im going to be perfectly honest here. Your drawings arent bad, but they certainly arent the nicest drawings I have seen. I think with a little work and a little more practice you could be making much better drawings.
Not trying to be offensive though, just something that I noticed.

very nice! Much better :) try not to smudge so much though, if you're careful you don't need to smudge to get it 'smooth', you just have to be patient when shading. On the bottom of the mask it looks like you've lost some detail because of smudging, it's kinda washed out and blends with the bottle :) very good stuff though

schild: An overall good start to those pictures. I can only really say what others already have in that A: there's too much white. You have the right idea on your texture method for drawing clothes and, as I said before, are off on the right track. Fill in and smooth it out a bit. Smudging is a very good technique when you need to cover those large areas and smooth the shading. Once you've smudged, use a kneaded rubber eraser to lightly take out some of the graphite. This will produce a sort of "highlighting" effect and give you a good contrast between your darks and lights. Something to keep in mind: smudging also reduces the power of your darker areas and it may be necessary to retouch them so as to maximize your contrast. B: proportion. This is not an easy thing to overcome and does take some trial and error before you get the hang of proportioning correctly. You're not doing bad but as another tip, as soon as you finish sketching an object, compare it to whatever else you have on the page and then compare them in real life (a mirror really helps). Re-scale where needed. C: keep up the good work and continue to practice.
Shippi: Your drawings are quite nice. Looking at them, I noticed small things that I couldn't help but want to give you a few tips on. You've done very well in your base detailing but in order to get the most out of it, you need a highly discernable contrast from your darks to lights. You're definately on the right track but one thing I think could help you out, not only in end product but in making your life easier, would be a greater pencil range. For those crisp, clean lines, I've found that using 2H-4H yeilds best results. The lead is hard enough that you won't get any flaking which causes slightly blurred lines. And for the darker spots, 4B-6B would really lessen how hard you have to push on the paper to get the desired darkness, resulting in less hand strain and less warp to the paper. You'll notice a significant change in smoothness and texture as well. There's one specific area in each of your pictures where this would prove very useful. In each of your drawings, it's a bit hard to tell hand lines, from marker lines. Using those harder pencils (2H-4H) would give your lines the definition needed to clearly see where hand ends and marker begins. The softer pencils (4B-6B) would also give such a darkness to those crucial areas (i.e. vent holes in the mask, and knuckle pads on the gloves) that it will make those lighter areas will seem to pop out more resulting in much better detail and definition for your focal point. Fantastic job overall. Keep up the good work.
Post note: I'm an art major so feel free to contact me if you ever need advice on anything at all.

an art major sweet ,were do you go to school? I would like to look into that sort of thing.

The funny thing is, art is one of the most overlooked programs in nearly every major college/university unless you go to an art specific school (i.e. one of the many Art Institutes). I personally looked around a little bit before deciding where to go and I must say, look into your community colleges first and then one of your state's universities. Often times you can find killer art teachers in smaller, more uncommon schools. You'll get a great education out of it and pay a lot less. Holding out your degree that shows your art major on it from a community college, I can assure you, is just as effective as a degree from any big name school or art institute. Having said that, don't mistake me, I'm not at all against going to a larger, more widely known school, if money or anything else isn't an issue.
What it all comes down to is your preference in teachers. I went to my community college and talked with them first and got to know what their classes were like. If you're serious about it, I suggest doing the same thing. Ask around locally where you live. Find the nearest college and just go in to meet the teachers. You'll find that simply looking around before you decide on anything will make a big difference.

Thank you :) this is exactly the kind of thing I need. The drawings look more 'washed out' than they actually are because the photos are pretty bad, but you're right, I do need to contrast things more. I'll keep in in mind. Thanks again

thanks for the advice on schools r.one. oh shippi on contrast. Do a lot of scratch boards they help you notice darks and light a lot. Also what helps is when you draw try not to draw lines, just shadows
