View Full Version : Prizes/Giveaways?

While browsing the internet I came across good ol' Animal paintball. Turns out, these guys have a forum too. Every 25 posts you get 1 entry into the prize drawing, which this year, happens to include a Ripper Angel.....
Well, on the one hand, it would be great to be able to give away Angels and duch, but randomness kinda takes the fun out of it. Maybe we could have a cash prize for certain things, or pball related stuff. Maybe an award for "Best overall gun" (must include pics of gun and internals so we know you're not making it up) or perhaps "most tricked marker" or "best off topic poster"....maybe one for "best mod".....you mods could vote on it and give away like $50 gift certifricates to some of your sponsors. Someday, after you run the ad in APG you could give away larger prizes.....then we could take over DYE and buy out Brass Eagle......
But could we at least do something along the lines of a prize drawing with entries based on the # of posts in a month? You could give additional entries for reviews written and the like.
LMK.

Well, considering how many people post massive amounts of inane rambling just to boost their post count as is....
If you were going to do something, just give it to active members (post more than once a week or something).
I couldn't even imagine how much crap would be posted without real content if there was a prize involved for doing it.

Yea, a prize for post count would just increase the amount of spamming, but i think it would be a good idea for some prizes, but some people just cant afford to have a tricked angel, you know what i mean? You gotta consider the people that just cant get the best stuff out.:eyes:

Maybe there should be a prize for the person who suggested this idea......:D
No, you're right, we'd have to have a way to figure out if they were a regular poster or not. But worthless spam could just be deleted and not count.

Remember when we had the colored balls under our names? Remember how people went ape nuts with the posting of spam-ish materials?
Drawing or something it's a bad idea but hey, we work Andrew and Sid enough and they're still poor. j/k.

how much does it cost companies to advertise on this site?
What about "Most helpful non-mod user" and "Most helpful Mod" and "Best thread topic poster" "Best replyer in____ forum"

wel if you want to factor posts into the equation, u could like deduct points in the drawing or whatever, for continual spamming, flamming etc.

I think that pbreview is successful enough that companies would sent markers to Andrew or Sid and let them do an official review on it. The official reviews could be kept separate from the other reviews. When they were done reviewing, they could give the markers away. That way, the company gets advertising for their product, the site gets more quality information and more traffic, the users get to view the quality information and get free prizes given away.

I'd do that!!
Seriously, if you guys do that and want someone to write an in depth 10 page article about each one detailing every little thing about them in a clean and concise format with good illustrative pictures, and have them done quickly, and be well worded... then hell yeah! I'm there!

Super Nick is right on. And UT, as son as I get a net connection I can use, I'm right there with you. Got a new digicam I can't wait to try out. Maybe I could test the blowbacks?

Sounds like a deal. Nobody on here knows blow backs better than you. Of course, we have to get pbreview to let us first, and they have to get permission from the companies before that... :| BUT, if official reviews on this site ever came into being, I'm there.

I've been thinking about that, being a mod isnt all about being smart, but we got some members that are smarter than the mods...
but could he really be smarter than hsuve...

Ok, I see where you were going. Sorry.
Anyway, the smartest people in a subject don't have to be mods. In fact, mods don't even have to know about their domain, it just helps since they read that a lot. A mod needs to know the rules, read all of the posts, implement the rules, mediate, be nice, be helpful, and most importantly be there, and be there often. They need to know that they are assuming a responsibility and be willing and able to carry out their duties.
So, they wouldn't have to use mods for reviews, especially since they are unrelated to the forums. For a review, you need someone who can explain in detail, is knowledgeable about a subject and forms fair and unbiased opinions based on facts alone, not preconceptions. Also, they need to have a lot of free time. The lists of qualities for a mod and reviewer are disjoint. Besides, mods already have their hands full.
