My friend recently bought a M98 non custom off of me and tried to install a flatline barrel on it but the flatline adapter doesnt seem to fit right. The part that holds the grub screws are always in the 8 o' clock position and the adapter is in tight. We did losten the 3 screws that the manual say to and even tried installing it without the 3 screws in place. The adapter seems to be sticking out 2 mm out to far. Becuase of the adapter not screwing in fully we cant put the shroud on it and my friend doesnt want to play without the shroud in place. So does anybody have any suggestions on how we can fix this?

If it's an older M98, it might have the old threads. Can you provide the serial #? The old design has one fewer thread on it. An old thread to new thread adapter might be the only way to fix it.

its a old m98 so i guess it doesnt have that one extra ring the serial # is 98394. Why couldnt tipmann tell us that. My friend called up tipmann and told him the problem and he said that they all are the same and it will fit properly with no adjustments needed  . Ugh i guess i am gonna have to dremmel the adapter to make this thing fit in right. Unless people can think of some other way of doing it.

Take the marker apart (keeping an eye on the front sight spring.
Place the adapter where it needs to go.
Reassemble the marker.

I had the exact same problem, it was driving me nuts till I just did the above.

No screwing it in, no 1/4 inch gap, and you are good to go.
