Are you talking about an Expansion Chamber for CO2?

If so, the holes inside the chamber allow liquid CO2 to flow to the bottom of the chamber, giving it another chance to convert to CO2 gas. Liquid CO2 in your gun can cause velocity spikes and, in some guns, screw up the internals.
