Hey Folks.
I searched for threads with this topic, since I didn't find any; I'd like to start this one...
Just migrated to a A5 RT, J&J 16" Barrel, plus some other little things...
Love the marker...
Normally playing in the woods, I like to snipe.
I'd like your opinion and suggestions for a sight for my gun. I'd like some magnification (but not more than x2), Red Dot, no Laser, preferably with flip open/closed caps.
I'm thinking of mounting it on a Lapco offset sight mount.
Any recommendation?

Well the problem with sights and laser is that paintballs curve so you arent guarenteed to get a working sight.

I recently upgraded to an A-5 too. You're going to have to use an offset sight rail or deal with your hopper being a little in the way. I've got the Lapco offset, on top of a raised BT, its perfect. My scope is a Tasco Red dot. w/ no magnification, but it works great, and its very rugged.
I have always wondered if magnification would help with the longer shots (sniping) but I have been reasonably successful putting the paint on targets at as much as 150 feet (with flatline barrel) and have always felt anything further than that is just luck.
Laser sights, are only good for scaring newbs.... which is fun.

If you read carefully, I mentioned I'm not looking for a laser. IMHO it's waste of money... at least for woodsball.
Yeah, I know I will have to get the Offset mount.
The reason for the magnification, not so much for aiming (the standard aiming pin of the marker is accurate enough, if you use it well), but more to identify targets, meaning more specifically other snipers. I've got guys with the full camo thing, and already from about 60ft they got invisible. So with a x2 zoom, it would help me to certify if that "bush" is alive or I can keep on moving ahead.
Keep on looking...

red dot only way to go. Using a scope or nay zome is pointless, you cna't get range where it well be usefull. And with red dot you realy are not just looking down a small tube, you can still see the area easelay, important in short range like paintball.

I did read carefully and I agree; Laser sights are a waste of 20 bucks, “only good for scaring newbs”
A Red dot is significantly easier than lining up the sights (assuming you get a decent one), check out some of the reviews, if you haven’t already. http://www.pbreview.com/products/reviews/1588/. My Tasco is identical to this one but only cost 30 bucks and was worth every penny.
As far as a spotting scope, I can see your point that it might be useful to determine if that shrubbery is actually the enemy in a guille suit, or in fact a bush. I use a pair of binoculars for that – but it’s a pain. So, it may make sense to mount a scope with some magnification in addition to the Red dot, if your not on too strict a budget.

My recommendation is to forget about sights and learn to shoot without them. Paintballs are not nearly accurate enough for sights to be useful - especially at long range. The time spent trying to line up your shot can be the time your opponent makes a move - a move that you didn't see because of it. Learn how to shoot without sights, and you will never go back to wanting one. Save that money and buy a more useful upgrade.

If you want to spot out the enemy snipers just get a cheap pair of binoculars

righto my good man. yes scopes and lazer sights will never be very accurate. due to the imperfections of the paintballs themselves. just learn to placement shoot and youll be fine.

If you realy want to use it for spotting I would definitly look for the flip up caps on the ends. One ball in the right spot and you will be out all the money and work you put in to that thing.
A buddy of mine had a red dot for one game. One ball and that thing was toast. I usualy just send a newb out as point man. Everybody loves to shoot at newbs, even when they are out of range.

I have a Tasco 30mm 1x Red Dot scope which i use because the sight on the 98 flatline is crap. I got it for $30 at sports authority and it gets the job done. Like other people said, a paintball is not accurate. Even if you have a 12x scope and have the crosshairs on the guys chest, chances are the ball is not going to land there. When i want a better look a a guy who is far away i take out the 12x hunting binoculars i carry on my belt. I say just pick up a cheap 1x or 2x red dot scope and carry binoculars.
