Hey guys!
I recently got my wife a Black Dragon LCD(clearance $20 - how can you go wrong?) and went to my field to get it chrono'ed. The field has a great reputation, and most of the guys are really straight - they have always treated my right.
Anyway, this is my first electro (sear tripper, hybrid, whatever you want to call it) and one of the guys says that CO2 is bad for the electronics.
I looked at him like his head was on backwards. I have been in paintball since he was in diapers, and since it is just a sear tripper, there is no direct contact with the CO2. I know that when you have electro-pneumatics the CO2 pretty much trashes the valves, but a sear tripper? :dodgy:
He goes on to say that the blow back (from the recock) can go down the frame and freeze up the board, and cause problems. :eyes:
Now, I think this guy was full of it, but I have to ask - anyone out there ever had ANYTHING like this happen? I can see freezing the valve, it not recocking, but you'd have to be all up in that trigger to get it that cold, wouldn't you?
Let's hear about all those frozen boards that I can't find ANYWHERE with google - I mean, it must be true, if he said it, right?

..........
blowbacks work fine with co2
they get rather cold while shooting high bps rates but they are fine
not sure why he was telling you this...unless he mainly deals with high end guns that need hpa and maybe he thought you should have a hpa tank instead of co2

yeah thats crap dude don't listen to him I shot 1200 dry fire shots in just a few minutes (I was wasting air so I could get a Anti siphon put in before I left)
and not a problem with my tes

He's full of **it -- CO2 cannot hurt the electronics in a sear-tripping blowback marker. If the CO2 could get to the electronics (which are *not* in an air-tight compartment), you'd have a pretty nasty CO2 leak.
BTW, your $20 marker came from PaintballlGateway.com, right? I've had an PI E-1 (LED) for a few years now (and have never "frozen my electronics") and picked up an E-2 (LCD) recently and wanted to get another E-1 after I found the sale, but they were already out of stock on them... :(
It's a fantastic marker for only $20, even stock.

it's not 100% bs. I have heard of it happening on a very few occassions with some spyders. But usually of co2 getting down into the solenoid, and screwing that up (condensation and electricity...ewwwww) by passing through the gap in the sear and the frame. But it is a very rare occurance at best. And keeping the o-rings on the bolt in good shape would reduce those chances even more. To be honest, unless it's an aftermarket bolt that is REALLY too small in diameter for the tube, I dont see hardly much of any risk at all.
 really nice buy there, Shan. back in it's day, when the electro gripped markers were starting to make it into the scene, those were some of the fastest markers that you could buy. And you got it at one helluva great price! (heck....I am REALLY tempted to find out where you got it at!)
did you get one of the ones that have the 20 bps cap, or the 10 bps cap?

Yeah MrLuckyPants - paintballgateway.com. They flew out of there!
We oiled it up, and took a few test shots - pretty impressive! I ran a Desert Fox for years, and this thing makes my fox look like a slug!
Wolf,
That's what the guy was saying (blowback down the grip) but like you said - has it actually happened to anyone? He said that the manufacturers wouldn't cover it as a warranty claim (but dragun doesn't cover warranty anymore, so it's pretty much a moot point). Oh well.
I saw the electros come in too when I first started playing. It was around $200 for the spyder electro frame. They used to have a mechanical frame that shot 3 round bursts - remember that one?
It's capped at 20bps, but no modes other than semi. Is there a jumper that is missing to get access to the other modes? Not that it really matters, but still fun to have.

yep, they arent running them for 20 bucks anymore. they have the LED models for 40, and the lcd models at 60. still...60 is a pretty good price for the LCD's.
I personally, have never seen one get "drowned" (my term for it) by co2. But that's not saying much, cause I cant afford to get out to the field a whole lot (MAYBE once every two months). But if the probabilities for it were even more than a miniscule chance of it happening, there would be a lot more talk about it, than there is. Its more of a horror story, than anything else, IMO.
Tho to be completely honest....if I was to believe in it being a regular occurance, I would believe it happening with a few spyders. kingman has developed a less than good reputation about their tolerance levels when it comes to exacting fits, nowadays.
Unfortunately, I cant say that I knew of a mech frame that would do bursts. Some of my buddies that have been into it for many years would probably remember them. Tho I would really love to see one, that sounds really cool!
Cool! you got one of the good boards! A lot of the really older lcd boards had a 10 bps cap on them.
I dont know whether the jumper trick will work on those older boards. I know, that the Dragun The ONE (t-1) boards could be jumpered, and a few peeps have mentioned being able to do it with the TES boards. But those are a different set of boards than they had put in the older Black Draguns.
Half-Step here in the dragun forums has a mod site for draguns linked in his sig. And it shows how to jumper the The ONE boards. You could always give it a try, and see what comes of it.
If you want to get a lil bit more speed outta that bad boy, contact the guy in my sig that is selling 50g switches. I've got one of his switches in my TES, and in my dragunfly. And he runs one in His black dragun. with that in there, I can pick up about an extra 3 shots per second, over the factory 250g switch, and not have to worry about bounce.
hrm...speaking of that...I'm gonna write him and see if I can get a scan of his old trigger. See if the TES triggers would be compatible. If they are, ya might think about putting one in your wife's. they are a LOT easier to walk than those double curve triggers that dragun had put out. Or think about getting a zenitram 3-way adjustable, which are a lil bit better than the stock tes trigs.
but anyway, big time congrats on the buy. again, that is one helluva deal on a really good (if not slightly forgotten) dragun
edit- obtw....if you start to get to thinking about putting a better barrel on it (recommended) the barrel threads are Spyder threading...just in case you dont already know. Everything else is universal threading, except for the fittings on the reg and the drop's asa. (dragun's notorious "funky fittings") which are an odd-sized metric.

Yeah, this was the LCD model. They had 1 left (without the jewel) and they were selling it for $59.90 - I don't get it!
First thing, I need to get her out and playing - then we'll worry about the upgrades. I can walk it up to about 10bps, but I've seen those blade triggers add a few bps - and the 50g switch would be nice too - but I don't want her getting TOO much on me!
I just got a call from the field - my gun just came in (I ordered a piranha EVO - I know, blasphemy in this forum  ) so I'll be doing the new gun dance here shortly.
That burst mechanical trigger - I never saw one in person, but I remember them being advertised in APG, and my friend was looking at one for his. I'm sure someone has one collecting dust somewhere).

but I don't want her getting TOO much on me! lol yeah, women seem to be notorious for being able to work the trigger better than us guys can. I'm.....NOT trying to make any kind of implications there! It just seems that by and large...they are better at it.
I remember this one kid that could get, and hold a relatively constant 16 bps. And then when he was all swelled up with pride over that, his mom would put him to shame by capping out the board! (granted...another one of those not-so common occurences, but it was funny as heck to see!)
But yeah, getting her active is gonna be one of the main priorities ;)
The EVO is a pretty nice fish, from what I have heard. I havent had any personal experiences with them, or with piranas (other than being shot at by them)

dont worry about Co2 in a sear op electro, not only do I work at a feild and have seen many electros running on Co2 (with no problems, except some frosting at extreme rates of fire) my wife uses a modified ACI Dbl Agent on Cos and has never had a problem.
By the way on the fish, keep an eye on the cupseal. We used PMI guns for rentals and the black delrin cupseal in the fish is the only cupseal Ive ever seen shattered inside the gun (probably the reason they include a second one), and it happened fairly often. If you have a problem with this (I hope not) any valve that fits a spyder should fit.

Wouldn't happen, condensation from a cold blast of CO2 might fry a board, but not the CO2 itself, which would actually be good, as it would cool the electronics.
