Yes, get a Female Palmer Stabilizer. It'll replace your ASA.

If you're a good tinkerer you could try to do a vertical setup straight from the valve, but if you do it wrong, or mess it up during play chances are good you'll strip out the valve.

When I put my stabalizer on my 98 I thought it was more comfortable than the old front grip. For one thing its a lot bigger.

Ok "Newbie alert" here, but what is an ASA?

And about that stabilizer, does it "mesh" well with the half of the grip that is part of the body of the 98?

Pasted over from paintball dictionary in newby forum:
ASA - Acronym for Air Source Adapter. The part of the gun where the tank screws into, to pressurize the marker.

Link to that (please read it) http://www.pbreview.com/forums/showthread.php?t=286691&highlight=dictionary

Look in the pictures thread at the top of this forum. Decide for yourself.

Made a forum wide search for it and it gave me about a million pages of stuff that didn't help, I kinda lost hope after that. Hadn't seen the newbie section. Don't worry, I'll go through it!;)

I was hoping for some user feedback, I had seen the pics, but I wasn't satisfied.

thanks anyways!

IMO it looks great, and feels better. Also makes for a slightly larger finger guard.

Even if it diddn't look as good as it does I would be so happy that it is there doing what it does that I realy wouldn't care that it looked bad. Function over form always.:D

Then your best bet is the female stab. Here's a pic (http://www.onlinesports.com/images/nps-3661.jpg). It's your cheaper option, but as Tom said, the reg replacing the foregrip can be more comfortable, so preference is the main factor in this one.

i ran an inline stabilizer, from the unimount (asa) into the stabilizer -> into the gun.
very consistent just like any other stab out there on the market. with hpa i had -/+ 2 on the chrono after it was broken in.

kept the stock forgrip for a while, then i got a gas thru..

(which is for sale btw :P)

thats your best bet :P if you dont wanna spend money on a vertical adapter / mounting equip.

no, if you wanna do that, you'll need a direct stabilizer. if you want the female, like other members have mentioned above, you'll need to get either mounting rings or a block kit.

like coenen said, putting a stab there is not a good idea, it puts too much stress on the valve, especially if you use it as a grip.

especially if you use it as a grip.Inferring that the danger of ruining one's valve is still present regardless.

Here's my understanding of how that setup works. There is no direct Stabilizer that has the proper threads for the Tippmann valve, thus you must buy an adapter. There is no adapter that will fit the shells, thus you must do some dremeling or milling on the shells for the adapter to fit. Then you screw the adapter into the valve and the Stab into the adapter. There are a lot of threads there to get stripped, cross threaded and ruined. You could ptoentially ruin the Stab, the adapter or the valve, just putting this together. If you slide into a bunker funny, or drop it on the ground or something like that you pretty much run the risk of ruining all of it. The materials used fopr threads of this nature are almost always a relatively soft/fragile metal, which means that most threads like this are unable to handle undue amounts of stress. The paintball environment is about an undue amount of stress as I can think of.

If you want to do this, now you know how, just find the thread sizes, grab some loctite and teflon tape and go to town...just know that if you ruin it there will be no sympathy here. If you ruin the Stab I'm pretty sure Palmer isn't going to see things your way either. You MIGHT get a replacement valve out of Tippmann...but even that is getting iffy.

lol yes thats me. a whille ago.

i was going to go for a direct stabilizer, but after talking to NN and emailing craig palmer (the guy who makes the stabilizers) i decided not to for the reasons coenen mentioned above. if you want to get it to fit, you will have to hack a bigger area in the recievers in order to fit the reg in there. NN did it to his woodsball gun, and i cant seem to find a picture of it :(.

although you may not be using the reg as a grip, what if you fall on the gun? chances are the reg will damage the valve one way or another.

But NN had the stab directly in his valve on the supergun. Here's a pic:

No he didn't, that's a modded LPK vert adapter, and what appears to be a micro rock on the LP Chamber.

Trust me that is not the same type of equipment we're talking about here.

not really :P. its a low pressure chamber. not a direct reg.

haha well my friend figured out a way to do this and he didnt even wat to
what happened it the vertical adapter he bought didnt fit his 98c i thing it was for m98 or something so he undid the sauter on both sides of the tube and then put them right next to eachother where the asa comes out in between ( he did have to mill his gun a lil tho)
i'll try and get pics
