Ok, my folks got me a VL Triton 2 players kit for X-mas with 2 boxes of scorch paintballs. Am I going to suffer in a week or so when I go to play at the local pb field? My best friend owns a VL Triad and I was impressed with it, is my gun better?

Neither are very great paintball markers, that being said, they shoot balls and are pretty uncomplicated, go to www.bradyspaintball.com and scroll down to the videos section if you want to see some really impressive guns, but keep n mind these things usually cost upwards of $500.

Like Sheps said, neither are the greatest. Although, out of those two, his is better. The Orion and Triad are the higher end of Viewloader markers, but still the lowest in the paintball world. So, bottomline, his is better, but yours isnt that much worse due to the Viewloader quality, and that all Viewloaders are the same, except the electros.

Am I going to be able to keep pace with the Tippy 98c's they rent out at the field tho? As long as I can point a gun at somebody about 50 yards away, pull the trigger a few times and get paint on somebody I'm happy.

Then your good, all low-end perform pretty much the same, but your is smaller and will be easier to shoot, furthermore, you can upgrade your marker, wheras they cannot.
If you want to get the most performance out of your marker then get a better barrel (J&J ceramic and CP 1-piece are the most highly reccomended candidates) and an agitated hopper (Viewloader Revolution or Empire Reloader are good choices).

There isn't a real pb shop for miles and miles where I live. I'm pretty much restricted to wally world accessories. My folks don't ever let me buy stuff off the internet and the paintball field I go to just has a Co2 fill station and a stockpile of overpriced paintballs and rental guns. The hopper is a good idea tho, I'll look for a agitated one that's decent. My friend has one and it's rediculously loud. When he's hiding behind something the slow but steady Whirr...Whirr...Whirr of the hopper always gives him away. It's even gotten me shot when I was behind a bunker with him. Is a gravity hopper really that bad that it needs instant replacement? I can squeeze out a decent rate of fire with it.

I could beg to differ. I'd say the triton is better. Dispite the fact that the two markers are almost 100% the same, the triton has a better machining and manufacturing quality.

I need to oil it. Would hunting gun oil work on a pb gun? You would think it would. I just don't want to go and waste my money on pb lube.
And who is the engineering genious who made the hopper on this gun a strait up vertical one. That makes aiming just about impossible.

No. Hunting oil is most of the time a penatrating oil, and you dont waant the oil in your gun, it will destroy everything it gets a holed of. Get some Air Lube. That is the best stuff for low end markers.
Get used to the straight up hopper, that is how every other one is, dont wine, just live with it. Anyways, just aim down one of hte sides of the gun and line it up with the barrel, just as good. Really, you dont aim in paintball, you make good guesses on how far it is and shoot untill you have the right range...

guess it wasn't such a good idea to lube the bolt and most of the internals with O-ring lube then. Or is that not going to hurt anything?

No, not really. it messes up the materials and formation of the Delrin Bolt. It makes it weaker and sometimes eventually destroys the bolt and how it functions.

I just did it once so that's not too harmful is it? It's not like it'll blow up or turn into dust after one time. The gun definately needed some type of lube because you could hear the bolt scraping against the metal. Sounded like nails on a chalkboard. It came completely dry out of the box. All the lube it came with was O-ring lube.

It wasnt too harmful if you only did it once. Dont do it again. Use Air Lube, that is what I used on my 'Cocker until I got my Proto and had to use the Dye Slick Lube. Any machinery or sewing machine oil/lube will work well for your low end markers.

Um, not sure. My dad got it as his work. You might. Just go to the sewing/ home decor apartment and see if they have any Sewing Machine Oil. That will owrk perfectly.

laugh all you want but if you really don't want to order a bottle of marker oil off the net... get KY Lube in local drug store :) just the regular on not the one that heats up when you rub it... its almost the same thing as marker oil :)

No need to buy anything if that's a good thing to oil it. My dad keeps a bottle of KY in the bathroom (kinda creepy, he's 50 years old). That'd be hilarious, you go to the pb field and say that you've gotta lube ur gun. Then you pull out the KY. I appreciate and admire cheapo solutions, as long as they work.

Mineral Oil is reccomended in the Viewloader manual I have, and White Lithium grease also works if you prefer a grease (I do, it stays where you put it :) ).
