Depends on how it's used. It could be the process where gas pressure is used to reset the bolt into the cocked position or when excess gas blows back past the bolt and up into your feedneck.

its blowback
that was helpful and full of purpose... :dodgy:

blowback can be two things.

Blowback 1: Type of marker named for it's recocking methods. the valve has a port on the back that allows gas to flow through it when the valve is open. The gas traveling through this port is what is used to recock the striker (and the marker). Blowbacks are "said" to be the most inefficient on air due to the redirection of air to recock the marker without easy adjustment control (such as an LPR (low pressure rgulator) on an EP (electropneumatic) marker).

Blowback 2: When air leaves the valve chamber and enters the bolt, somtimes it escapes around the bolt and exits UP the feedneck. This is caused by the lack of a tight match between the bolt and the bolt chamber. The result of this blowback is a decrease in feed rate due to the upward force against paintballs entering the marker. It can also cause chopping if you don't have eyes, or a decent force-fed hopper.

I'm sure this is written somewhere else, so please search in the future. All you have to do is type in "blowback" in the search field and sort throught the results till you have your answer. ;)
