On the instillation guide it tells you to re-tap a hole, then plug it with a new plug. If you are just re-plugging it, why tap it?? Am I missing something??

because the existing hole doesnt have threads in it, its is just a clean drilled hole, you ned to tap it w/ 10-32 threads, so the set screw can screw up into it, if im not mistaken

I thought it re-tapped the exisiting hole, filled by a grub screw?

Maybe I can describe it better... or not

There is a gas transfer port between the Valve chamber and the Solonoid chamber. On a stock Impulse, the gas goes into the valve chamber then down the transef passage, and into the Solnoid chamber.

The Point of the vffs is to give the solnoid chamber its own air source. Do do this we have to plug that transfer passage.

Now when Smat Parts drilled that transfer passage, they could not drill it "inside the gun" So they drilled the passage up from the bottom of the gun, thru the Solnoid chamber and into the valve chamber. To plug this passage, they tapped the first part of the passage and put in a "grub screw" to seal the bottom of the passage. Well for the VFF, we what to plug the top of the passage and leave the bottom oper (to be fed by the VFF).

The taping invloves screwing the tap up thru the bottom part that is alreay taped (we just removed the grub screw remember) and keep turning until it gets to the top of the chamber where there is a passage- but is not tapped. We simply contune screwing in the tap and taping the top section.

Then we screw a shorter set screw thru the bottom of the gun, and up into the newly tapped transfer passage. Once we have a set screw in this passage, it is sealed so air can no longer transfer from the valve passage to the solnoid passage.

Just FYI, we now have the full flows that do not requie taping. This is done with a LONGER set screw. The set screw is drilled part way up and a port is drilled into it on a right angle. Now gas can flow up the center of the the set screw and dunp into the solonoid housing. the top of the specail set screw goes up into transfer passage effectiving plugging it without having to tap it.

This is the New Designz VFF. Our first tests indicae that it gives the same advange of the VooDoo full flow, without the tapping. Of course teh VooDoo full flow could be installed "tapless" if you could get ahold of the small specail set screws that New Designz makes for their vertical adapter.

Hope this helps
