View Full Version : Little Bit of a Problem With my Tippy 98...

I went out to play last weekend with my then newly bought 68/3000 Me'Lee nitro tank.
I was out on the chrono range checking my velocity for a days play. I was shooting between 247-252 FPS, with a max velocity of 266 FPS (Field Chrono Limit is 280 FPS). But the strange thing is I couldn't get my velocity above 260 FPS after that. I don't recall if I backed the velocity screw all the way out or not.
I have a WGP Reg (The ones found on the stock 'cockers) and was wondering if the pressure from the reg could have any affect on velocity.

Were you low on air? This past Saturday I was playing and my gun wouldn't go over 240 FPS...I later found out that I had only about 50 shots left. Check to make sure that wasn't it...

try opening up the WGP reg and turning up the presure a little bit. Also, check how much air is left in your tank. If that doesn't work, you may need a new mainspring, this can be found at www.countypaintball.com

I know I wasn't low on air, I had it filled when I bought the tank, but now that I think of it, I think the spring may be the culprit after all.
I had to have the spring cut when I was using CO2 cause it wouldn't go below 280 FPS (In other words, I was shooting hot).

i had run into problems with the chronograph itself.
Depending on the chrony's model, you gotta make sure you are shooting DEAD CENTER over the doppler.
I was off center one day and it wouldnt register my shots over 250fps. so i kept on crankin' her up trying to break 250....
Then i clued in and shot STRAIGHT over the chrony.. and realized like a *cough* genius *cough* that i am, i was shooting at 320 fps! *oops*
needless to say i FIXED my speed.
Though what you are saying about your spring has probably got more to do with it than the chronograph.

Hmm..I'll have to keep that in mind the next time I go out and play.

In all reality, it's probably your spring. if you cut it, it'll behave differently once you change air types.
Your best bet is to get a new spring regardless.
