The reason im asking is because i own a tricked out Tippmann M98, and my friends all have spyders. i was thinking about getting a phantom and really getting into pump play....will i beable to keep up with them? Or should i keep my tippy and not bother....i dont have much money(14) and for me to get a nice phantom i would have to sell my tippy and some other things...
i dont like using alot of paint, but i tend to with my tippy.

Um, if you are talking about rate of fire, then obviously a phantom will stand no chance. The only way you will keep up with them is using the melon, and out manuvering them.

actually, when you want/need it, you can autotrigger the phantom (hold down trigger, pump back/forth fast), and get off the few shots you need. Sometimes, on my phantom, i take off the pump rod spring, so i can pump faster. I prefer the spring on though.
also, you don't need fast ROF, it only takes one shot to get someone out., and the phantom is very, very, very accurate.
im my opinion, the only real upside to ROF is it's more intimidating.
But, trust me, do what you can to pick up a phantom, you won't regret it. Iv'e had mine for two years now, and i love it. My first game i was disapointed, because i had crap paint that was too big for the barrel, so it sucked, and i was pissed. but next week, i had fresh rp marballizers, and i was doing some serious shooting that week.:)
well, anyhoo, i reccomend a phantom... highly.

max bps a nelson based pump can handle being auto trigger is about 3 bps. If that. A tippy is close to 10. So, like i said before, in ROF a phantom has its anus handed to them.

Dude

I played with a pump for the first time this weekend. There is nothing like it, but you are out gunned. My phantom forces me to be a thinking player. I need to know where my help is. I need to use my cover, motion, and firing lanes well. All of this makes me a better player.

Phantom w/ pnuematic assist, .45 grips, t stock, and nitro.
Play safe!
Respect the game and those who play it!

I can easily shoot 5 bps with my phantom, some old school guys can do more. People sometimes dont realize Im using a pump until they see my gun when I play with a hopper.

ROF wise, the Phantom is setback. However it is not the speed of the gun you should be concerned with as it is your own speed. The Phantom will force you to move faster and will easily help you by it's reduced weight, even more so if you play with a Stock Class Phantom. Toting around a stock class Phantom, which is signigantly lighter and less bulky than a Spyder, will make you much more manuverable than your opponent, just make sure your shots count! If you go stock you are gonna need a stock harness as well! Overall, going pump/stock could lead to you becoming a much better player and perhaps some real bragging rights:laugh:

I know exactly how you feel, I am the only pump out of our group of about 20. The majority have spyders and tippmanns but that hasn't really slowed my progress. I am usually one of the top five in most games and I go through the least amount of CO2 and paint.

But....sometimes they like to play speedball and I have a harder time keeping up. I'm not saying that it is impossible, just more of a challenge ;)
