snipers vs. speedballers

I first started to play paintball in a time I call the "pre-spyder era."(about 1994-95)
There were few semi's on the field and everyone got along, and it was good. Untill "judgement day," the day kingmann released the Spyder. Everyone got a spyder and the fields turned from pump to semi. And with the semi's came the 13 year olds. Now if you use a pump your are considered a sniper and a newbie. I use a pump, get one shot-one kill eliminations, and conceal myself well. That's the way everyone used to play, but now if you play this way your a sniper, that's okay. What not okay is 13 year old kids with spyders thinking pumps or snipers suck. How now snipers and pumps get shown disrespect by the younger generation of players. how did this happen?

bps while he managed his 1 ball per 13 seconds and couldnt keep up.

a question how is a newbie a sniper with a pump sniping takes patiance(sp) and being good at the sport and sneaking around. andfrom what iv seen newbies dnt sneak around they stand streight up whe runing cant hit ya when runing away frm them with tere flag and there a mere 10 feet bhind you(personal story of one of my games) and they yell for help when one pb goes zinging by there at 280 fps no to me thats not a sniper newbie they try to snipe out my team but dont it always turns into a paintbath(bloodbath in violent terms) because we get 5 newbies in one bunker with there talons and deltas takeing on a team of 4 cockers that been a team for 3years. so i dnt think the genralaztion of pumps means newbie snipers is right

I think some people have problems with hicks. I bet that problem is because once apon a time a hick housed you... Are you seeing that the statments you make can be inversly used agents you? The sport wasn't invented by hicks, infact, people that hold alot of money and time are the ones that made this sport, same reason the best guns(in popular opinion) cost 2 grand.

the fact remains that people want to be shooting faster, thats why pumps went out of the publics eye.

A random fact, the first "real" game of paintball was won without any eliminations, actually without any firing.

That thats not what I was trying to say. I wasnt trying to say anything except what I said: Which is that he probably got lit up by a 13 year old who had a spyder flash shooting 13 balls per second while he sat there and pumped his Sniper 1 and put out 1 ball every 13 seconds (which is a bit of an exageration, oh well).

Secondly, most of the people I know who have been playing since the 80's are hicks. The statement "I bet that problem is because once apon a time a hick housed you... Does the difference of 2 bps really matter in the statement I made? No, absolutely not. All you need to understand about it is that the guy is just pissed off because a 13 year old with a spyder flash has a high ROF and he has a low ROF and got lit up. There. What don't you understand? I mean honestly, its not that hard.

what is said was that 'newbie 13 year olds with spyders diss oldschool players who use pumps. This is because the children think that pumps suck, and if you use a pump you must be a sniper, and if your a sniper, you suck. When back in the good old day (when you didnt need to unload 15 galons of paint a day to consider yourself good) everyone used pumps and got along fine. Now that semis are so popular, there is a general feeling that pumps sucks because you cannot unload 15 shots a second.

i have to say this, which takes more talent. shooting 30 rounds at an opponent to hit him once, or shooting him once and hitting him once?? (hint, the more rounds you need to hit an opponent isnt good)

What he said made a huge generalization against people, stating that "Now if you use a pump your are considered a sniper and a newbie." I, and almost everyone else, does not think this. And I have no respect for "Oldschool" people, in terms of anything, not just paintball. I really hate it when people have **** stuff and claim its better than new stuff just trying to cling to the vain fantasy their stuff is still good. Note: I'm disagreeing with the guy who said Oldschool, not sniperfox.

Also, people with pumps are just snipers because of the low ROF. You have the same if not better accuacy with a semiautomatic anyway.

And why would a newbie use a pump anyway? Maybe if it was some brass eagle, but otherwise the only people I've seen playing with pumps are experienced players.

the only one who got what i was saying was Archmage, and I first started to play paintball with my fellow Cadet's, in the CF as a training exercise NOT in the tennesee with some druken redneck hicks. I am just saying with semi's came the 13 year olds, and with them the generalization that pumps and snipers suck. And when I see these children on a field they don't "light me up" they get gogged by my pump, repeatedly.
I was asked how this "pumps and snipers suck" got started, now I assume it was from the immaturity of the younger players, and the ignorence of most people.

hang on one mintue here. Thats a stereotype. im thirteen, and I play with a pump, and I respect anyone else who plays with one, who are now very few (in my area anyway). Yes, i do get dissed by other 13 year olds and It pisses me off. But you know what i do? Hand them their arse in a game, then the tables turn. Haughty little semi totin 13 year old mommas boys are a real pain in the neck (no offense to anyone who is). You cant beat them all in a day, so whip out the paint and gas, and take a week to do it.

I think i know where the idea of pumps sucking came from. I think it came from SOME field owners. The reason i say this is because SOME owners just want money. So where do they make their money, giving a person a pump that they typically shoot little paint or give them a semi that lets the person spray and pray. The reason i say this is because i went to a different field a little while ago and asked if he had pumps. He ended up putting them down and saying that "no one wants them". Even though i was looking at using one. (just a note, im not saying that all people hose with semi, i have one guy go through less paint with a mag then one guy did with a pump). So i say with these type of field owners and the mix of people that never try pumps(and say they suck), it wouldn't take long for the idea to spread

I'd say semi's do spray and pray way more than they should. One time and ONLY one time, I used a semi at a field, and found myself shooting ALOT more, ever when i didn;t have a clear shot. I went against every sniper and pump instinct I had, I never ever used a semi again.
my friend wants to be a sniper but for some reason bought a semi, and when we played he did not wait for a clear shot, he just shot in my direction hoping to hit me. i pop out and kill him with one shot.

I like a team of both. "These Days" your snipers need protection. So i think that "these days" you need say 2 snipers in the back and 3 speed ballers in the front snipers cover speed ballers and defend base. Plus tacking out targets. Thats just my 2 cents and what i plan for my team to do.

you dont need to have a pump to be a 'sniper', semis are just as good as pumps for the long shots, BUT the fact that a player is able to hose leads to people hosing more then they should.

its all about controling your fire... but sometimes it is fun to just hose :)

ok my 2 cents worth to the first post... sniping isnt a newbie.. it takes skill to hunt and stalk your opponents without being seen. I like to snipe.. one shot one kill:) but i also like to play up front in all the action, but i still always looks for that one shot situation..

i just dont see how a newbie can snipe, since you have to have atleast some experience in the field...

but i know what you mean.. i started off with a stingray and all my friends had tighershark pump guns.. then i got me the first spyder out(still have it) and man that gun kicked a@@, true i could shoot alot faster than the pumps, but i didnt buy the gun for bps... i just wanted to be different.. still a sniper, but also with the ability to shoot 7-8-9-10bps if i had to:D

i guess that makes sense:) its all just a matter of personal preferrence:) a pump can take out a angel or cocker... sure it takes a little skill, but u never know what could happen on a pball field:cool:

Some of those involved in this thread need to take a step back and think about 1 word.

Respect- treating another the way you wish to be treated.

I brought the Phantom out to the field this weekend. The gun got nothing but OOOOooos and Aaaahhhhs and I got nothing but respect from my teammates and opponents for playing with it. Not all oldschool guys are good, or respectable ballers. That is true for the new generation too. It is the duty of all paintballers to have and teach respect for the game and those who play REGARDLESS of their gear or game.
