I going to be getting a regular old 98 Custom and was wondering if I could put a WAS board into it.

by what I've read, it would depend on how old it is. If I'm not mistaken, 98Cs from '05 should be made to fit the E-grip (and adding the was board should be possible as well).

So i can add the WAS board without previously having and E grip of some sort in it. If the 98 i get is older than an 05, which it probly will be, because im getting it used then i dont mind milling out a bit for the Board.

No you have to have the egrip, THEN get a was board.

But don't all the E-Grips that tippmann is now selling come with the WAS board standard?

yeah the new ones are but there are still old ones out there for sale...check tippmannpros.com or the tippmann site for the availability of the WAS board for the Egrip

It is my understanding that Tippmann in a sense, 'bought out' WAS's production of the boards for the e-grip, and as of a few weeks ago, all of the e-grips (for the a-5 and the custom pro) that Tippmann has shipped will come with the WAS board standard.

My guess is your best bet would be to order one from Tippmann directly. Won't be the best price, but you'll know for sure you're getting a new product.

I have not personally contacted the company, but I understand that several other members on here have and have confirmed this.

Yes, the new Egrips now come with the Was board already on it. And if the 98c wasnt manufactured in '05, then youll need to mod the halves to fit a Egrip. Or if you have the money, buy the Custom Pro right receiver half ($50).

So your saying that if i get a used 98 thats not an 05 ill just have to mill out the grip frame to fit the board. Also where and how much is the Tippmann WAS board.

I believe that it will be sold for the same price as the old ones.

As for where to buy the new ones, I'm not sure who has em in stock (I'd imagine that most of the ones in online stores currently are the old versions that they already had in stock). Thats why I reccomended ordering from Tippmann directly.

The 05 customs have places milled for them, and FYI, tippmann isn't exactly the greatest on updates, also if your 98c is older just buy the custom pro reciever half.

Well im trying to cut down on cost so i think ill just mill down the areas. And can you please tell me of any place to get them.

Just grazed through the e-bay stores, and I didn't find a single e-grip for sale that mentioned the presence of the WAS board.

Well, the one in Cali appears to be a service center, so I'd probably call the main number (think its the one in Fort Wayne). Just tell em you want to order one of the e-grips with the new boards.

or you can get the was board with the solenoid and then order an amiture pin and new sear from tippmannparts.com and you will be good

Jr.

Yes but which would be cheaper. If no pains idea is cheaper than ill do that but if not i think i might just buy the tippmann board.

The Tippmann board, is definitely going to be better. It can be found here at Tippmann Parts (www.tippmannparts.com) for $40. But the WAS board is faster and more adjustable. So you get what you pay for.

I thought the new tippmann board came with the WAS board installed.

I believe he's reffering to the old board (the one the WAS is replacing). Doesn't really have anything to do with the topic at hand.

If you can order the new E-grip straight from tippmann for $100, then do that. If not, you can buy the WAS board (and solenoid) and whatever parts you need to make the e-grip (armature, sear, ect.) and construct it yourself. Will be more expensive than the $100, but less than buying an old e-grip and WAS board seperately.

Call Tippmann and see what they sell them for. I have never bought directly from tippmann, but I assume they will sell it at MSRP, which I believe is $99. Thats as good as it gets if u want the WAS board.

Call em and ask the price. You can make a decision off that.

Yes, I was reffering to the old Tippmann board. The new Tippmann E-grips have the WAS boards in them. Go for that, just make sure that where you order from has the official new E-grips.

If you call tippmann, tell us what they say.

I am kinda contemplating getting one as well.

Jr.

Will do. Im probly going to be calling tommorrow and ill see what they say but first i want to actually get the 98 in my hands before i order it or i may be stuck with a board and no gun.

Yea and make sure that it is in fact E-grip compatible. Take off the rubber grips and there should be a square hole for the solenoid to fit inside.

Since its an old 98C, you will still either need to have the reciever milled out to the proper specs or just buy a new Custom Pro reciever right-half.

Jr.
02-04-2006, 07:55 PM
Yea, i really dont want to waste $50 on a new reciever when it would be cheaper just to mill out the area inside. Im trying to keep my gun as cheap but as good as possible.
