View Full Version : Did this help (Hopper modification)?

Ok so I was a little bored tonight, and on an impulse I decided to do a little modification to my hopper ( a standard VL200). As I said earlier, I was bored so I was snap shooting at things around my house with my gun fully essembled, hopper elbow, empty tank etc etc. So as I was playing around I realized that the viewloader hopper sits a bit higher out of the elbow than it actually has to. So I cut about half an inch from the base of the tube, and when I put it back into the elbow the hopper sat a bit lower. I still could probably cut off another 1/4" before the elbow lip begins to hit the part of the hopper tube that funnels out, and in my mind I think I greatly improved the compactness of my gun and profile. But now I'm kinda wondering, is there a reason the hopper was originally made to sit that high? Am I going to lowerd my bps somehow by shortening it? In my mind I cannot find anything negative about it, asside from the loss of one balls worth of space in the hopper, but I kind of wanted you guys's opinions too in case I missed somehting.

Thanks :)

Ok I went ahead and cut off the remaining 1/4" afterall. Makes my gun seem much more compact now. :D

was it a revvy?,if nto i know ti wont harm anything,my brother cut about 3/4 inch off all his non revvy hoppers to shorten them up when it looked good on his stingray, doesnt harm the bps anything noticable(on his pirahna he can outshoot my 12v revvy so he said he might wait and get a halo or richo for it)

In all honesty Magnus, I don't think things with hoppers are too deeply calculated. For instance there was an entire batch of clear and colored 12v revolutions (a few thousand hopper shells) that could be shot straight through with a room temp paintball at 280 fps. I'm sure VL does test their products to a certain degree, but the hopper industry isn't rich enough yet where it can plunge thousands and thousands into product testing and research. A lot of these things happen by trial and error. So as far as a reason for the height of a hopper feed neck, the current length is more then likely not optimal. I say mod away, its what I do!

i dont really think thats a good idea. sure u save what 3/4 of an inch in hight. If u think about it the fastist feed u will get is the balls that are already blow the hopper and in elbow. there just being held by gravity. so if u cut that down u can't fit as many balls into that same space. what this all boils down to is if u rip into a fast string of fire theres a chance that u wont have as many shots before the hopper starts to respond and feed balls. If there is more time then it acts like a buffer and gives u a little flexiblity. Well this is what i think and thats all that matters if its 3/4 inch u wanna save thinking that will give u the "edge" then so be it but if i were doing it i would have thought twice.

Yes, but if someone is using an elbow, there is already a "restriction", because they are feeding at an angle. If you want speed, you go for a vert feed high-rise. Fact of the matter is, the differences are minescule. Unless there is an actual jam in the system, it won't matter.
