Yea Stick to
Piranha
Tippmann
Spyder

These are the best blow back brands, and great value for the money. I suggest browsing around the forums and reading reviews, like what I did, I chose the Tippmann Model 98 custom, and I am very happy with it, actually today was the day i got it.

And dont be afraid to ask questions.
I also highly reccomend this thread http://www.pbreview.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=26301

hey man,
if ur gona spend $150 on a flashy spyder, so be it, but why not spend that on a gun that u know is reliable, accurate, consistant, does more that blind people (like spyders w/ there flashy paint), and very upgradeable. at xpaintball.com, u can get a 98custom for $123, that leaves u like approx. $25 xtra bucks, to spend, GET A DOUBLE TRIGGER! why not upgrade it while your at it!! it all depends on how much your willing to spend. the 98 or the 98c are great tippmann products that a miles apart from spyders in performance, capability. ETC.
in other words,
ppppppppssssssssssssssst.
GET A TIPPMANN!! trust me, you wont be dissapointed. while ur at it,
ur first upgrades should be:
new barrel
2x trigger
drop forward
GTA X-chamber
and 12v revvy

just a suggestion, i would get a 12v revvy before a double trigger and after a new barrel, with the double, you will be chopping like crazy

hope this helps

tippmans are nice but if your gonan buy one u might as well rent.
they're great for noobs ultra reliable and u barely have to clean it or anything. As for the "flashy spyder ano" at leasts it has a mettalic loopk and it dun LOOK plastic the the tipps. Spyders are also reliable my firend neva took his apart and its worked fine fer 2 years. Seeing this is a tippy forum i'm gonna get flamed. go to a proshop try each out. IF your gonna play woods go wit tippy. If your goin sppedballin go wit spyder. But tippies forgrips are pretty far from the trigger frame

Tippmann's are as reliable as solid stone. rock solid.
I've literally seen a '98 get run over by a truck, and the S.O.B still worked like a charm. That's the ultimate torture test right there.

Run over a spyder and you are left with that much scrap aluminum. depending on the TYPE of spyder, you might have a piece of scrap aluminum to begin with anyway! ;) (kidding, kidding)

As for being a "newbie" gun, the thing i like most about these 98's is you can bring it up to whatever level you want!
The gun grows as your skills grow! and thats a good thing, seeing as how you'd spend an average of 1000 bucks tricking your 98 out to the gills, and it STILL WORKS after god knows how many years.
Or you could go out and spend HUGE cash on a cocker or something, trick it out, get sick of it, buy the NEXT cocker model, trick it out, get sick of it, buy an angel, trick IT out.... yadda yadda...

you know what they say... "a million bucks here and there, pretty soon you're talking real money!"

I am not saying that Tippmanns are bad here... but this whole thing that they as tough as a tank! My Spyder Shutter has never had any problems (exept for some so minor it took 30 secs to fix!)!!! The Spyder Shutter is what I would go with for only 160$!!! It has an regulator (WICH WORKS AND IS AWESOME!!!) and even an expanison chamber so I get a velocity consistancy shot to shot speed differece on average 3-4 f.p.s. This means great shoot grouping even at very long distances(STOCK SHUTTER TOO)!!! The Spyder Shutter comes with a better stock barrel than the the Tippmann c98 stock barrel. The Spyder Shutter also comes with a double trigger too! (I can shoot up to speed of 7-9 b.p.s. without any fancy grip frame)! The Shutter also comes with a rear cocking bolt so when I fire at extrodenarly(SPELLING) high speeds I dont get a Jam or a ball break! Also the Shutter is much much much more easier to take apart and clean the internals!!! When there is ever a problem it is very easy to fix on the Spyder Shutter!!!

Also For the Tippmann custom 98 to get some of the features of the spyder Shutter this is what it would cost!!!
Double Trigger 20$
+A regulator 60$
+120 (Tippmann c 98)= 200$!
And does the Tippmann c98 have a better stock barrel? no.
Also is the Tippmann c98 as easier to clean and maintain? no.

Okay that might sound like I am completely biased towards the Tippmann company but I am not tring to!
:|
I still must admit that the Tippmann custom 98 is more reliable but the spyders are preatty reliable too!!!
I overall think a buy like the Tl Plus for 125$ or an spyder Xtra for 150$ Or even better a Shutter for 160$!!! would be much better and save a lot more money!

I SAY SHUTTER, OR ANY OTHER SPYDER ALL THE WAY!!!

While the Spyder vs. Tippmann war is going on, once again, the only thing I'd tell you is to buy a gun that fits you. You like the way it feels, NOT looks. Don't buy a gun for looks, no reason for that. If you feel comfortable with a tippy, use it. If you like Spyders, use that. I found out that, just me, that I like Spyders for speedball games with a nice 10 inch barrel and a drop. 'Cause they seem nice a compact. I own a tippmann and it is a nice gun. It's a workhorse, plus you can throw some decent upgraes on it. So check out all the forums and the maybe make a decision.

Hey man, go with a custom 98. I don't know what some people are taking about the gun is not hard to clean at all. You can also get a double trigger without the 12v loader. I haven't chopped a ball yet and I have a double trigger, but I also haven't tried pulling as fast as I could either. I would also recommend getting a rocket cocker or a spee-t-cocker to cover the openning in the back.

nothing against spyders or tippmanns. Just a warning. Don't get a shutter. If you happen to want a spyder, get a TL. Shutter has some good stuff, it also has some shiny crap on it that attracts the attention of N00BS.

Ehehe, Spyder vs Tippmann, 'Cocker vs Mag, Angel vs Shocker, etc, etc, etc. It'll never end...

Anyway, I shoot a nicely customized M98C, and it has never given me any problems, not even one. Sure, it may not be the best looking gun ever, but it sure gets the job done. Why do you think *most* fields will rent Tippmann guns over Spyders or some similar clone? SImply because the guns are gonna be put through hell and back throughout the course of a years worth of operation. You know how newbies *can* treat their markers...Scraaaatch...

M98's are nice and cheap, will never give you trash, and with a new barrel...Lapco Bigshot...are gonna be more accurate then you need. Sure, a Spyder may have a "reg"...more of a guage if you ask me... and an ex chamber...more of a gas through grip..., but still has, in my opinion, a horrible trigger, non standard threading, and a semi-bad reputation for not being the most reliable guns out there.

I'm not gonna say anythig more, just this: If you're looking to get into the sport, and want a marker thats cheap, reliable, has a great company backing it, and great performance, look no further than anny Tippmann Pneumatics marker.

they are both good guns for newbies but i feel the spyder is a much better buy, a good setup is a spyder extra(the best spyder) and a palmer stabalizer with a nice barrel. This will be good until you want to get a high end gun. also tippmanns and spyders are good guns but what was said about upgraded tippmanns being as good as nice cockers or angels is just not true. a 150 dollar gun will never be as good as a 1000 dollar gun.

i have a double trigger on my 98c and i haven't chopped any balls yet, regardless of the double trigger, the 12v can withstand up to like 15BPS Max (if u have the turbo board). even w/ a double trigger, u cant fire that fast, so i dont really think a motorized hopper is necessary unless u got a fast firing gun (an pneumatic, full auto, or cocker). now, if u get a RT, which i believe is pneumatic, u will most definitly need at motorized hopper. the kool thing about the RT is that it fires when u pull the trigger as well as when u release it:cool: and i have heard, i dont know whether its true or not, but that if fine tuned by a airsmith or pball tech, u can fire 3 round bursts.
get the 98c, it won't blind other people like the spyders, and doesn't chop paint, or act as high beams :D

(ps for all the dense people, my gun setup is below)

i hate it when people say that the RT will shoot on the pull and the release. IT ONLY FIRES ON THE PULL. you are talking about the e-bolt kit. it has a response mode. but i stll think yu shuld get a tippmann

I just love how the pirahna's got thrown out of this conversation... me personaly, I would go with a pirahna if I were going speed ball. But I play wooded rec ball so I went with a pro/carb. But anyways, you should do what I did, get down and dirty in the fourms... ask around, compair prices, and look at the reviews too. Don't take all of them to heart, look for the insightful ones though, not the all caps 2 words responces. just my 2 cents

You want a great beginnner gun on a low budget get a spyder compact and a cheap expansion chamber and aftermarket barrel.

gun $82
expansion chamber $15
32* Termninator barerel $35

That equals about 130 cheaper and 20 times better than any tippmann.
