http://www.pbreview.com/forums/images/icons/icon1.gif need some advice
i don't want to waste people's time. i have tried to personally pm the moderators and those people who seem to know a lot about BARRELS, but they don't take PM. so I had no choice but to post a thread. i wanted to match the color of my marker to a barrel but it's a hard seach, here's the picture of my marker: (please note, i'd rather much be help on the performance than the color matching, but if someone can help point a barrel that significantly matches my marker, that would be great!)
http://www.pbreview.com/forums/showthread.php?t=353029
i'm happy to know that my marker actually existed.
now my question is. i suppose a barrel match of black to chrome is the best, because hot pink is hard to find. maybe pure black won't be bad either.
in terms of choices i only have these in mind.
1) twister barrel from EMPIRE
2) EVIL driver Barrel
3) POWERLYTE speedline Barrel
4) and maybe a DYE XCEL barrel
which would you suggest would best perform and secondly best match my marker? thanks!
also for people who also has the same question..... does anybody have any idea how these barrels perform, trying to search down and low in google and here in PBreview, can't seem to find any info on the following:
1) DEMON BARREL
2) TILLER BARREL
thanks again!

I would suggest getting the Kaner barrels in black or you can always buy the barrel(s) you like and have them annodized.

that sounds great! thanks.
errr... i know it might sound
stupid but, what's annodized?
is it getting the barrel painted
to match your liking? or is my
guess way off?! hehehehe.
i knew nothing before i joined
PB community, but know i am
starting to know a lot. my next
learning stage is BARRELS! hahaha!
but of all those 4 types i suggested,
what do u think would perform best.
i don't mind the cost of those four.
thanks!

If you would be willing to spend the money, I would suggest a chrome/black Dye Ultralite. However, they aren't cheap, so I would go with the Driver or Excel out of your list.

yes indeed, that Dye Ultralite looks amazing,
and the reviews says it all too. but the price.
at little bit too much for me. This would only mean
that the barrel would cost me more than the marker
itself. WOW! Evil is great too! thx for the advice
*sigh* if only evil driver makes chrome/black

I would suggest the evil Pipe for your gun over the evil driver. Cockers are closed bolt markers, and sometimes have a problem with the balls rolling down the barrel (which affects trajectory, distance, and accuracy when they shoot) if the barrel to paint size match isn't good enough to keep that from happening.
the pipe is a kit, meaning that it comes with several (5) different sized bores that you can change, to match the size of the paint that you are using. and you can find them for around 80 bucks on ebay, and from online sellers by doing a search for "evil pipe" at www.froogle.com
here is a pic of the tips that are available for the pipe. just keep in mind that the ones that are flared at the end, are hard to find, and are expensive.
http://i7.ebayimg.com/05/i/06/33/5b/32_1.JPG
for the colors that you have got running with your marker, I would say to go all black, or black tip with a silver back, like in the pic you posted. and then think about having the black portion done with a similar black to pink fade. Or even better, in the hot pink.
edit- oh yeah...and most of the moderators around here are really, really nice people. But we keep them very busy with maintaining the forums, and making sure that everybody follows the rules. So unfortunately, most of them really dont have a whole lotta time to be able to answer questions that dont really pertain to what to do or what not to do here on the site, or about something that somebody did that they shouldn't have. ;)
edit again- yes, you are correct. annodizing is sort of like painting. but instead of being sprayed, or brushed on, the item to be colored is dipped into a jar of the color, and then treated, so that the color adheres to the metal. thats why most anno jobs you see, are done in straight lines, like the pink to black fade on your cocker ;)

thanks a million DarkeWolf (http://www.pbreview.com/forums/member.php?u=95868) vbmenu_register("postmenu_3356286", true); !
what u posted is really helpful!
i was thinking of buying a freak system.
and was inclined into the likes of evil pipe.
and a few others. now i understand the whole
annodizing thing! thanks very much for the help.
i think i have a good idea of what to do now.
most likely evil pipe, just gotta save money!
thanks dude! and everyone too!

You are very welcome, and I am glad that I could help :)
Freak systems are kinda... well... you either love them or you hate them. They use small metal strips called inserts; to change the bore of the back. and if you dont have them lined up just so, they dont work correctly. same with the back to the tip, if those aren't lined up just right, it also affects the accuracy. They just take a lil bit more work and care, when you are putting them together.
But yeah, for your particular gun, an autococker; most people will tell you that a barrel kit, rather than a single piece, or two piece barrel, would be the way to go. Because of the way that the balls load into that type of marker. And so that you can fit the barrel to the paint, to avoid the rolling in the breech.
I also wanna mention, and forgot to in my first post, that regardless of what kind of anno you have on the barrel, it CAN be taken off...just like regular paint. Granted, you want to find something that is a fairly close match right now, but after you've got the money for the annodizing, you won't be stuck with the colors that are already on it.
The pipe has gotten a lot of really great reviews. I think that it's one of the top 5 mid-end (price-wise) kits that are available. A friend of mine on here has one, and he loves it and recommends it at every chance that he gets. I'm gonna be getting one to try out in about a month or so. (yeah, I gotta save up the cash for it too, so I definitely know how that goes ;) )
again, glad to be of help with you on this. if there's anything else that I can help ya out with, just let me know :)

indeed once again thank you very much Darkewolf!
all the information that u help feed my brain.
enlightens my brain further more about paintballing! =)
u've been a great help. I had acquired a few help from people
along the way, from helping I.D. my marker, to what is best way
to buy a thank (co2 or nitro) to what kind of marker and now, to
barrel match and what is best. u trully have informed me well.
i knew a little bit how a barrel kit works, but ur detailed explaination
have help me understand the in-depths of BARREL to PAINT match.
now i understand that a barrel to paint match is very important. that is what i kept hearing from people. and the best way to reach such a state is by having a barrel kit! i will keep on the look out for kits, i have seen an EMPIRE 4 piece KIT, for 49 bucks i dunno if it's any good. it's brand new. anyways, i'll continue to save money until then i have to just be happy with my stock one for now. =)
thanks again dude!

well, it is especially important for people with autocockers... or in our case, off brand markers that function like autocockers. for the reasons that I gave about how they feed.
there is also a sticky or two here in the barrel/paint section that can give you an idea of how paint to bore match can also affect the accuracy and stuff. one of them that I had read is pretty lengthy, and is a hard read. but if you can get through it, it's got a lotta good info ;)
that is a really good price for a brand new empire 4pc empire kit. granted, they only have the 687, .689, .691 control bores, but that is a really good start, and will cover most of everything except for the smaller paint, and the larger paint.
unfortunately, I have no experience with that kit, or heard anything about them. so you'd have to read the reviews, and decide for yourself...unless some other people throw in some input on them.
always glad to help out :)

i guess that's a start. i'll keep on the look out.
i'm still had my eyes on the EVIL PIPE KIT.
it looks sweet and the cost is not the expensive!
but i will keep on the look out, i will check up on
ebay every now and then. do u have any suggestions
on what kind of kits to check out? and i'm a little confused
with these FREAK SYSTEMS?! u put something inside the barrel?
to serve as a freak system!? how does that work? anyways!
thanks darkewolf! u have been a great help. - nate

well, you can find quite a few Pipes on ebay for around 80 dollars usd. But most of them are limited to the silver/black fade tips. :/
about the only kits that I have really seen in action, or heard about firsthand are the Evil Driver, the MacDev Matchstik kit, and the J&J Edge kit, and the SP Freak.
the matchstik is a really good barrel, but it is more expensive. the 5 piece kit runs around 100 usd, and the 7 piece at around 125 usd. there USED to be a vid on www.scenariodreams.com where they had put a hole about 3/4 of the way through a piece of drywall using that barrel, and two hoppers of paint, as the advertisement for the dragun t-board.
The Edge kit I personally own, and it is a really good barrel. You can usually find the 5 piece kits for about the same price as the Pipe, around 80 usd, if you look around on froogle.com. Granted...I havent had the chance to try it out with some better quality paint. Just some uneven field paint. But even with that, the field I play at has a target area, with sillouette dummies. somebody tied a bandana around the neck of the one at the 50 foot mark. I emptied about half a hopper into that bandana, with just a couple of misses.
The only time that it has jammed up on me, or failed to shoot through breaks is one occassion where my bolt pin wiggled loose, and my bolt jammed up half-open. My evo2 fed 6 balls down into the breech, and forced them down into the barrel. So that wasnt the barrel's fault.
Like I said before, the driver, I havent seen in use, but a friend of mine here on pbr raves about it. so much that I am gonna get one for myself, and try it out.
The freak. I've seen a lot of people with these. and yeah, they can be some good, accurate barrels. when they are put together correctly. They are actually a THREE piece assembly, instead of the regular TWO piece assembly of most other barrels. You have the front/tip, a hollow back, and then the insert. The insert is actually what sizes the bore. It is sort of like a sleeve that sits inside of the back. But they have to be in there just right, or else there's gaps which can cause problems with the accuracy, as well as cutting paint, if they are too far out of alignment. Plus you have to worry about damaging them when carrying them around in your bag and taking them apart and stuff. here's some pics of the freak http://www.smartparts.com/Products/Freak.aspx and an ebay advert that shows the barrel, the back, and two inserts http://cgi.ebay.com/Freak-barrel-with-2-inserts-for-Impulse-NO-RESERVE_W0QQitemZ7218119238QQcategoryZ16046QQrdZ1Q QcmdZViewItem
edit- WOOHOO! Just ordered my Pipe! http://pbo.easyphpbb.com/images/smiles/eusa_dance.gif
Getting one of the kits like we have been talking about with the 5 bore backs, and a straight, all black 12" tip.
(frontman...I gotta stay small)
prolly be getting it anodized with blue for the blue/black fade for when/if I get around to getting my first gun ano'd blue/black and adding the blue and black highlights to my grey dragunfly http://pbo.easyphpbb.com/images/smiles/icon_cheers.gif

THOSE ARE SOME GOOD ADVICE!
wish i can play PB with yah!
u must be awesome on the field.
it really helps too when u got a great
marker. with everything working well.
coz the soldier can't perform without
gadgets to back him up. BUt yeah,
i have made some more research. i am
going to save up for a barrel kit. i don't
want a freak system, a lil' expensive and
a bit confusing to do. i'd stick with simplicity.
i think it's best to just buy an evil driver for now!
all black of course and have that as my main barrel.
and perhaps play around with the barrel i have right now
and have it annonized as u said. then change a few things on
my marker. i think i wanna change my drop forward and my asa.
it doesn;t match in color. i'm thinking of chrome(ing) the damn thing.
anyways, if u ever pass by montreal or something! maybe we should play
dude... together of course.. i wouldn't wanna play against yah..
i'd be easy pickings! hahahaha. see u around! thanks again!

lol actually my skills are rusting out right now. I havent had the chance to go play since december. And it had been a few months before that, that I had gone before. So I havent been practicing much in the last 6+ months :(
I hear you there, I like simple. Granted....simple doesnt exactly apply to the cocker-clone markers we have, but yeah...everything else, I like simple.
I dunno about up there in Canada, but down here, chroming is pretty expensive. you might be better off for cost just getting a new drop/asa.
well, dunno if I'll ever have the chance to make it over to that side of the border, but if you ever plan to head down this far south, lemme know in advance. it would be a lotta fun :)

tell me about it. here in canada it's snowing!
the last time i played was back in oct. 22!
i haven't played since. although i'm going to
field test my marker this weekend. it's only
indoor, so not much of a field test! hahahaha.
yeah chrome parts are quite a hard thing to find here
in Canada and if you do so it's quite expensive. so i'll
probably stick to a regular large chrome drop to accomodate
my 68/4500 tank. but still keep my old on/off. probably just
try to paint it myself. hahahaha! anyways, u take care now dude!
have a great sleep, coz me, i'm off to bed. long day at work u know!
NITE EVERYONE!
=) zzzzzzzzz
