So, this kid who said he would custom mill my ****ty stock A-5 barrel asks if he can do w/e he wants to the barrel. So for the hell of it I give him my barrel to see the outcome. I'm expecting him to add new porting, polish etc... do the smart stuff that WORKS. But he says he is going to... and I quote "if i tweak this properly then the ball will travel 4 to 10 times faster, and be 10 times more accurate"... I just look at this kid like he had fairies dancing around his head. He started explaining that it was some kind of riffling technique use on rifles that could make bullets go very fast. That is completely ridiculous. I told this kid that the even "IF" such a technic worked the same principals of riffling a barrel for bullets do not work for paintballs because your dealing with different mass, shape, sizes etc... I want to know... Am I right?

And also on a scale of 1-10... rate how stupid this kid is!!!

there are a few principles that are common in the ballistics of a bullet, and a paintball. But there are a helluva lot more, that are the exact opposite. or very much different.
For instance, a spinning bullet, or arrow flies in a straighter trajectory. A spinning paintball, curves.

the only thing that is gonna affect how fast a paintball flies, is the velocity the marker is running, how well the ball fits to the interior of the barrel, the length of the barrel, the resistance factors of the inside of the barrel, the porting of the barrel, and the condition of the balls moving thru that barrel.

So yeah, you are right, and he is wrong. But no, I am not gonna rate him.

Your right.... you canot apply anything that has to do with the rifleing of a weapon barrel into paintball, alot of people think you can, but there is a world of difference from a ball moving at less than 300fps compared to a pointed projectile (solid) spinning on an axis moving at 3200fps..... There is nothing that kid can do to your barrel....nothing......he gets a 10 rating.... :)
