View Full Version : ARGH noobs!

I know many will disagree with what im about to type but this has been bugging me to hell.

noobs yes you can get into the sport its welcomed with open arms, but if you are a noob please dont think you know more than you do (Like some i know personally). If you get into the game and decide to waste your money on a high end gun that does not mean your good its about more than the gun you decide to use.

I respect older players and they're choice of gitting a high end gun if they want the extra inconvenience it's on them. But back to my point, yes you bought a high end gun but if you dont know how your new high end gun works or how to even take it apart for that matter then you just screwed yourself over. |Ex: My friend bought a cocker he has spent more hassle with the gun then play and he has played just as long as me. He knows how his gun works but failure to know how to fix the gun made him pay a price of 20 dollars 2 different times for a new cup seal / fixing fee.

In conclusion if your new to the game !great! but please please please do not think you know more than you do or go for a gun that would cost hundreds. Yes it makes you look cool in some aspects and in some people's eyes, but in the true reality yes a low end gun like a brass eagle is'nt the best but man will it out perform a high end gun not speed wise but matenince, accuracy (with right barrel), price, and fun wise it will. As i always say it requires more skill to put 1 well placed shot into some's goggles than it does to shoot hundreds of balls and hit 1 time luckily.

Don't rag on your friend, Cockers are like 10x more complicated than most other markers. Sure experienced players understand how Cockers work, but they break down all the time regardless.

Generally that'd be true about the simple guns > high ends. But honestly if someone can't understand my Ego, then that person needs to be in remedial classes. The Egos are so insanely simple, because they're just a breech, a front reg, an LPR, and a grip frame. That and an LCD display that actually tells you in words what's going on.

My knowledge is disproportionate to my skill. I know much better than how I play. http://www.1337.com/forums/images/smilies/icon_redface.gif Maybe because I'm an engineering/math/science major.

EDIT: But I can safely say I'm no noob at either. :D

It goes both ways as well. So maybe the next time a Jax Warriors player hands me his Freestyle I'll just say "Why don't you fix it?" and then I won't have a job. Most pro players either have a basic understanding of their markers and fix basic problems themselves or they don't know anything other than how to shoot it, and when they do break down to the point of no return someone like me is there to get them out of the rut. So maybe next time you say something about a certain profession you shouldn't be such a dick about it. I'm sure all of the time airsmiths spent paying for that degree would like to know that it was all for nothing because they don't know how to play as well as they tech. Noob.

I hope that was a typo.

Anyway, if your friend took the time to come on a forum about paintball like oh I dont know, PBR? Then he could be answered and could learn things about his gun and he wouldnt have to pay anyone for fees.

Secondly Ill bet my gun breaks down less than that brass eagle you speak of and I bet it will be more accurate too. Not to mention the fun factor is arguable, have you ever shot a high-end? I dont know how you can think that shooting 20bps isnt fun. Not to mention maintenance wise mine is very easy to take care of, timmys and egos are extremely easy to take care of, same with spoolvalves.

You don't measure skill by the person who can get the most eliminations in the least amount of shots. You measure skill by wins and losses.

Not all high ends markers are complicated. Many are far more maintainence free than entry level markers. The whole thread is rather pointless.

The only thing I dont like from a noob is when one comes on the field with their marker acting like they are god.... being too cocky is a bad thing.... even most experienced players dont act like that.... on the local field here you only see a couple and after a game or 2 they calm down, so I dont give them any hell...not verbally I mean....just let them learn the hard way to keep their traps shut and play. :)

No, I'm afraid you're a n00b. Now be constructive or FOAD!

You can't compare raw skill to eachother, because most are better at some aspects of playing than others. ie. running speed, finger speed, aim, tactics, communication skills, etc. No one is good at everything. ...'Cept maybe Lasoya.

I have to know my marker very well. I beat the crud out of my marker so much that there is sand, paint and dirt all over on the inside and out sometimes even after one game. I've broken many things off my marker on superman dives and shots to the groin while running full speed. I try to take care of it, but I tend to enjoy intense firefights that usually put me face down in the dirt. I can literally build an autococker on the field. Don't expect me to fix your markers on a weekend though, I just want to be in every game.

Only n00bs call people n00bs, therefore I am a noob. Who cares? Quite easy to disguise yourself as a noob nowadays because of this.

I don't think it was a typo. I get the impresion Firebolt thinks high end gun equals extra hassles. I moved up to my Shocker from my Tippman just to avoid hassles(poor air efficiency, shot consistency, etc.). I like all the little benefits a high end with mods offer over a lower end. I play probably 90% woodsball, and especially for scenario games were your out there for sometimes hours at a time every extra benefit makes it that much better a day. I like to worry about the game not my equipment.

Plus the olive green colour (british spelling for a british product) makes it neigh invincible. And you can't see it in the woods.

This is kind've a pointless thread...

Okay, yes newbs ask dumb questions...but ya know what, they are the same questions you had when you were a newb. Seriously. Example...a newb asks, "What is the difference between shooting nitro and HPA?" I read it and think..."you silly newb." Then I remember...I had the same question 2-5 years ago...and whoever answered it probably thought, "what a silly newb."

Is it irritating when a newb has his momy/daddy buy him/her a brand new timmy because the brand new tippmann98 he got for Christmas ins't "agg" enough? Absolutely. Is the kid with the Spyder E99 who has no idea how a simple blowback comes apart and thus he can't clean it properly annying? Yes he is. Should newbs buy a solid mech gun when they start out and focus on their skills rather than buying an Ion and just sitting behind a bunker spraying paint everywhere...probably yes. But these things a work themselves out.

Example: I went to a field last season and a newb showed up with a shiny, new...something special. I don't even know what it was...except it looked new and expensive. He was smiling ear to ear...and you could almost read his mind; "I'm going to win every game with this bad boy!!" Well, first game...he couldn't get it to work and called himself out for that game and the next game as him and his dad tried to figure it out. Third game, in he comes...he gets in a bunker...pops up...poof poof...nothing happens...he ducks back down. This same trend continues for like 5-7 cycles until I was the last of my team and he had 2 guys left on his team and one of his teammates (with either a Model98 or A-5) hit me in the elbow as I started to run out of CO2 and was misfiring.

Well...long story short...the kid went home...and I'm sure was very disappointed. I felt for him...I've had days that were ruined by gun problems as well...but it served him right for getting a marker that was too advanced for him to operate and then showing up at the field thinking all it would take is that shiny new piece of firepower to destroy his opposition. Actually, if his gun was working...he'd have been hit out early because of his poor positioning...but because he kept ducking back behind the bunker...he lasted longer as his teammates played smart and won the game.

Crede777
02-27-2006, 04:53 AM
It's not that markers are too advanced for someone to operate, it's that people don't bother reading the manual that comes with it, and don't research it online.

For example, my Ego was getting about +/- 15 which is quite irregular. I knew a few things that could have caused it, but none of which showed up when I disassembled my gun. So I posted it on these forums, and Iplaynaked said "Check the seal seat thinger." I don't know what the heck a "seal seat thinger" is, but my manual does. I haven't checked it yet, but I will shortly.

Okay, substitute "cool" for "Agg"...and since most newbs are about 11 and have paintball friends...it's arguable whether your comment has merit.
