Well a buddy (also my teammate) and I went to see failure to launch this weekend with our girlfriends mostly because of the whole paintball thing....
Well if anyone else saw it the people were taking off their masks in the middle of the field to yell at each other (it was so dramatic :dodgy:) My buddy and I are just sitting there freaking out and saying !PUT your MASKS BACK ON!
plus they were slamming into the bunkers and knocking them down and bouncing off the tops of them and stuff, it was too wierd
anyway, what did those of you who saw it think?

It was better than I expected. Yes, its bad that they took off their masks on the field, blah blah blah, but there's a reason for that. Dialogue is much more enjoyable and convincing if you can see the speaker's face. It would not have been a very impressive theatrical performance if their faces were concealed throughout the scene. Fortunately, I think they only did this when they were relatively safely covered behind a bunker.
And it was X-Ball. Hell yeah. Anything is better than drivebys or sniping in the woods, but X-Ball is ideal. There was even some footage of players playing decently, with good form and everything. Sure, the major characters were gimps and the game unfolded more like an urban scenario game then an X-Ball point, but what do you expect from hollywood?
I found the trigger rolling motif mildly amusing. New players, especially girls it seems, are so proud when they learn how to walk a trigger effectively. Just made me laugh, I don't know about anyone else...
Notice how all the "pros" had Spyder Electras, and the star had - I think - a Diable Mongoose. Spyder = good, everything else = newb. I'm impressed that the film industry and a paintball company worked together to promote one another, its the next best thing to a non-industry sponsor in paintball.
As an aside, those blue Draxxus jersies were kind of cool, has anyone ever seen them for sale?
The rest of the movie was, as expected, utterly retarded. The main character completely changed his attitude at the slightest push from other characters so often that its not even funny. Don't see this movie if you can help it. However if you have a girlfriend who is going to take you to a chick flick one way or another, this is probably your best bet.

That will prove that advertising through public media is an effective marketing plan for paintball companies. That has to be a good thing for the sport's growth.

You've never done that before?
And jeeze, chill out. This'll bring lots of people into the sport. True. But its not going to bring in a bunch of idiots, people who truely get into the sport will do their research and ask on forums (cept here and PBN cause you noobs cant stand VS threads).

You just labeled yourself as the noob with that statement. (j/k) We have nothing against versus threads. Matter of fact we have several forums filled with almost nothing but that in the General Marker forums. We just don't allow them in this forum. If folks would wander outside of this forum, they might be surprised with what they find.

granted, but GPT is one of the more active forums and its where newbies would go to first because its "General talk". i just find it rather idiotic to limit newcomers abilities to post questions and versus threads. this is pbreview, help the newbs.

One of my goals with being so strict on this rule is to get the new folks to check out the rest of the forums. The other goal I would like to see achieved is to give the more experienced and serious ballers a place to call their own. We have a zillion places for the new players. It would be nice to have one place that the serious baller could call home. I know we don't have a lot in this category, but we do have a core group that should have a place to feel at home to have more advanced discussions.

Some of the guys that work and play at the field I go to were in it I believe (have yet to see it). But had one of truely been there (owner of pbc in louisiana) he probably would have wanted to kill the director for allowing the removal of those masks because he is extremely strict about safety things like that. Which as martha stewart would say is "a good thing".
But the blue draxxus jerseys probably had something to do with the rock-it-kids who are sponsored by draxxus and whose team colors are blue and black. And are based out of the same area the movie was being filmed around.
