I don't know If you are already doing this, but you might want to checkout the Mech. Trading section...
You will find good prices on 98 customs with, or without ups for a fair price.
My daughter and I got our customs from the board :D

i suggest buying used. With that same price as a new one, you can get one with all the necessary ups thats you'll probably ever need

don't mean to be rude but a tippmann although as rock hard as a tank is not the best route to go in some instance. mainly
1.what kind of paintball are you going to be playing (98c for woods=good, 98c for speed=mehh)
2.how much exp. do you have (if none then go with a tippy, if some go with spyder or promaster, omen, ion, etc.)
3.how serious or often do you plan on playing (if often then a better marker is advised but if everyso often the go with a tippy)
why I rant on sevierly upped tippy's is this. for the price of upgradeing a tippmann to be able to play at what i play (speedball) you need to spend a large amount of money and then when you go to sell it for another gun the resale on tippy's is jack (don't argue I'v seen it happen a dozen times, guys sells his flatlined, drop forwarded, lowpressue, e-griped, double triggered A-5 for a promaster, omen, wrath, ion ,etc. and all they get for the thing is about $90 because nobody really wants to buy a thing like that ./end rant

Are you going into the world of recball? I congratulate you, and I hope you have a fun time. The 98 custom is great for recball, mainly, because it is reliable, and gets the job done. The first upgrade you should probably get is a barrel. You can get cheap ones from brands like Smart Parts, J&J, Lapco, or CP.
Please don't buy into what these guys are saying..You do not need an electropneumatic marker(High end) if you are just starting out, that is just plain dumb. You should use that extra money on playing.

1st upgrade, god forbid if i agree with dunty, should def be a barrel. I'd first reccomend the J&J lineup, then smart parts, then CP, then 32* (specifically the nyte stikk).

i have a tippmann 98 custom and it shoots great i upgraded it i showed my friend and he said tippmanns suck he says brass eagle are the best paintball markers on the market then he gave me his brass eagle eradicater and it sucks he told me he took the safty spring off to make it full auto what kind of crap is that i resently went to my friend field since i had no money to go to orbital and threw it in his swamp that was all it is good for i think his mom droped him on his head because he sure is out of it he also got shot in the eye and almost lost his eye cause he took his gogles off in the middle of a 1 on 1 war what a loser

actually, dont make ur gun auto (response,e-grip). I got the response nd i live it down. If anything, get the ebolt if u can find one. They are walkable. I wish i could get a e-bolt.
