A employee at my local pro shop said that paintballs "vary in size case to case". Is this true?

In general the overall size going to be the advertised size with a slight +/- depending on the storing conditions.

Nope... If a case of RPS is advertised as .689 then all cases will be within .688-.690....but thats not much of a difference and it will not matter at all.

Yes, cases do vary in size, but like Skunk said it wont be horrendous.
