In the new movie Failure To Launch, there comes a scene where Matthew McConaughey and Sarah Jessica Parker are playing paintball! Although they weren't actually the ones playing most of the time (not surprisingly they had stunt doubles in for them), paintball has actually hit Hollywood. In the April issue of Facefull Magazine, there is a nice sized article about paintball's "not hurtful to the sport" debut. As many of you probably know, there have been some upsets i guess you could say, for paintball, in the movie and tv scene. Here's an excerpt from the Facefull article, going into some of the specifics of the "failures".
LAUNCHING OVER PAST FAILURES
Paintball's most memorable role in a motion picture, until recently, had been the infamous 8 Mile cop car shoot 'em up. A small, but poignant, role hat made ballers across the globe crine. But this *******ization of the sport we love was nothing new to us. We suffered through MTV's Jack Osbourne doing a little back yard balling, collectively clicked off the evening news as punks decided to use paintball markers in sick, late night, atrocities, and watched as our sport was used to sell cars in commercials featuring players in antiqued gear. Sure, we chuckled when Jeff "You Might Be a Red Neck" Foxworthy decided to go balling with the boys, but the non-mask segments still made us uncomfortable. To this day, many ballers continue to suffer from posttraumatic stress disorder whenever they hear the name "Bambi".
That's just a little excerpt of the article. And for the those of you who don't get the Bambi reference, I believe the name of the video that it is referring to is Hunting For Bambi, which was a video in which men went in the woods with paintball markers, and "hunted" naked woman. I remember reading an article about it in APG maybe a year or more ago, and it truly did make me cringe. But hey, maybe this is the break we've been waiting for; paintball more of a positive spotlight in a Holleywood hit, and also you can add in the fact that the NPPL is going to be airing on ESPN soon. I guess we'll see what happens!
