It all depends on what you mean by "better". Each have their strong points.

I love pumps. My first two guns where pumps. But that was a very very long time ago. I'm in tournaments and not the pump division. Pumps just didn't cut it for me in speedball. I think pump guns build good players. You learn strategy using a pump instead of sitting in the back and throwing paint. I think all players should start out using pumps. My love for pumps is probably why i went into the cocker world. Pump guns are the most accurate guns. Cockers have the accuracy of a pump gun with the rof (rate of fire) of the semi autos. This is just the tip of the iceburg.

Pumps are no more accurate than a semi auto, they fire slower, and pure performance wise, they are not "better" than semi auto guns. But using a pump is a personal choice people make for whatever reason. Maybe they want to save paint, maybe they want the challenge of being handicapped against other players, or maybe it's something different entirely

I'm not 100% sure on this but ive heard that pumps are more accurate and have a longer range then semi's. Im not completely sure though so dont quote me on it, its just what ive heard.:|

An Autococker. Its a semi auto pump. The accuracy of a pump and the speed of a semi auto put into one. Cant beat that...

Exactly.

yeah dude's there's no reason whatsoever (is that one word??) for a pump to be more accurate.... if you took a pump using c02 and a semi using c02, both with the same barrels, then they'd be the same... I think people assume that pumps are more accurate because single shot guns (real) are more accurate than full auto guns, that's because of recoil, and unless you're really weak or you're shooting a marker at 13 bps then there's basically no such thing as recoil when it comes to paintball....... if there were enough gas being used per shot to cause the marker to kick, then the ball would break from the force...

Like I said, there's no reason for a pump to be any more accurate.

I'd say semi-auto.

I love my matrix, and I am sure I will love my IR3 I am getting. (havnt they been shipped yet????)
I will only ever play with them in semi-auto.
thus they are semi-auto markers.

I believe that they are "better" than pumps.
anyone disagree?

(ohh... just off the topic... my team went to practice today at the field... and someone playing recball was shooting a blazer! it was the first one I ever seen! it was soooooo cool! seriously... it was a tight marker. didnt make him a better player though.... lol)

only reason people think pumps are more accurate is cuse they really think they do. u aim the first shot, so it looks pretty accurate. the placebo effect helps alot too

I dont know why, but I would take any decent pump over any decent semi any day. I just love playing with pumps. Especially seeing the astonished look on the guys face when he sees your gun is one tenth of the cost of his. thats another reason, they are economical ( the big word that means cheap), you save gas and paint, and not to mention the cost of the gun....
But it all runs down to personal preference. play with both, and choose your favorite.

I'm not sure about this or not, but if you take a semi marker and take like a phantom, wouldn't a phantom have a lower breakdown rate than the semi marker? That is just what I think, but I could be wrong

they r only more accurate because they have to be. If your playgin with a pump you have to be dead on accurate or have MAJOR skill if ur not accurate your gonna be gone in 10 seconds.

It's all personal playing stile

I'd Get a Phantom then get a backup semi auto maybe a side arm instead u'll get a lot more joy out of taking peps out with a pump then a semi,.

I have an electro auto so i am not bias either

Basiclly its how you play. Do u go commando? Pump is a bad choice. Do you pick your shots? Go pump. If you have money, then why not start with a pump, then just upgrade to a semi. Starting with a pump could only get you into good habits.

I play with both...

My Phantom has a pneumatic assist, which gives it a short pump stroke, about a quarter inch. With the auto trigger it is good for 4 to 5 bps. Not fast in the scheme of what is fast in paintball, but faster the a person can break cover and shoot me.

2 factors go into accuracy, barrel paint match, and consistant muzzler velocity. When dialed in my Phantom is very consistant at the chrono. With PMI Premium in my CCI barrel I shoot tight. I get more consistant long shots (beyond 75 feet) with my Phantom than I do with my cocker.

Last there is the player. Pump players shoot more accurately because they have to. I don't tend to shoot a ball at a time when I use my Flash, I shoot 2 or 3, minimum. I rely less on good team play with the Flash.

Pump player get in other players heads. I love to step one the range and drop a 110 foot shot no one else will make on the first try. People autimaticallt assume you have game if you will play with gear that seems "outgunned". Aside from B.E. pumps there is 1 other guy that plays with a Phantom. He plays with 12 grams and 10 round tubes. He has my respect.

The only reason I would suggest to anybody to use a pump would be if they had very little money. Pumps are cheaper and you go through less paint...you just have to work a little harder to get eliminations.

It isn't a cash issue...

My would cost you $270 the assist is $300, rock reg, gas through stock... not a poor mans marker. I could have bought a custom cocker or an Intimidator, or any variety of "high end" markers. The greater challenge, amigo, is shooting stuff like that right off the field with a pump. Anyone can "upgrade" a marker. Great players upgrade their game.

:D

Other then that, you are correct that you go through less paint (and less air as well), and so save money there. That, and I'd recomend a pump to ANYONE who wants to build their game instead of just their trigger finger.

Well it depends. If you are looking for a gun that is accurate, then go with a pump. If your looking for a gun to shoot a lot and is not as accurate, then go with a semi.

Do I hear an echo in the room? Pumps are NOT more accurate them semi's!!

Lord Chaos: I'm not saying all pumps are cheaper, but MOST are. I also meant that its cheaper to play with a pump because you go through less paint.

I left out another reason: If you are a good player, easily better then the players you are playing with using a pump will help even the score a little bit and you will improve by using it too.

again... I'd rather have an impulse or matrix or angel than any pump any day. (only playing angel with semi-auto).

remember... semi-auto= 1shot, 1pull

Forgetting for the moment that it would take someone paying me a large sum of money (as well as supplying the marker) for me to ever use an electro (personal bias and all that), against the majority of players I've seen 1st hand or played against, I'd take a pump almost every time indoors. More challanging, requires more skill, and builds an aura. :)

I like pumps because they are cheap and can take abuse. Also the range is nice. ACI Maverick all the way!
