300 FPS is the top end that most fields allow

most fields have dropped their allowable limits to 250-280 FPS

So what do you think the max power of a gun is though

Probably about 350-400fps. But this shouldnt matter, any marker should not be shooting above 300fps. Even if you are not playing a game.

I've gotten my old Piranha into the 470's, of course I would never shoot anyone with that velocity, but that thing peeled bark like no other.

I witnessed someone's brand new dm5 shoot 510. It went clear through the net in the side of our chrony area. Apparently it shipped with a bad hpr and he had to send it back to get a new hpr and some seals that were damaged in the process.

EDIT: Silly pet peeve of mine, but its kind of redundant to title your thread "paintball question" on a paintball forum...

The "normal paintball gun" should shoot 280 FPS at most fields. The speed is set by the field and you adjust your gun to shoot at that speed or below. It is a safety factor. If the speed is too high, the paintball could shoot through googles, causing serious injury or death.

I was at Skirmish www.skirmish.com for a scenario game and a ref caught a guy shooting 420 FPS (no wonder my shots were falling short).

Keep it at 280 max and don't change it. After 300 the paint starts breaking in your barrel and you get a decrease in your accuracy and efficiancy anyways. In other words, don't do it.

420?! Jeez, did he ever hit anyone? I got shot at 30 or so feet by someone with a tippy at 360 and that broke the skin through a denim vest.:|

His gun must've sounded like a cannon when he was shooting.
