Hi! First of all, I'm new. I don't plan on posting much at this time. However, I have a friend (hi Crime Dog!) who is extremely into paintball. And to be honest, it fascinates me. I don't know if I'd ever play myself, but the fervor I've seen in CD (and others) for the game does fascinate me.
So, why? What is it about paintball that attracts so many of you? What is the source of your enjoyment?
I apologize if this has been asked before. But I'm curious, and this seemed like a good place to have my curiosity addressed.

Because it's the most awesome sport of all time. Paintball is like chess, football, capture the flag, fight club, and marksmanship all rolled into one.
Chess because strategy is essential to winning. If you can't outsmart your opponent, no equipment is going to help you.
Football because it's a team sport. If your team isn't running smoothly, efficiently, and wisely, kiss your *** goodbye.
CTF because that's the objective. Grab it, run it in, don't get tagged.
Fight Club because many paintballers can be classified as members of one or both of the following groups: Sadist, Masochist. If you don't like giving or receiving pain, this isn't your sport.
Marksmanship is really self explanitory.
Really, no other sport can offer as much.

Hello to you as well Seithman! Fancy seeing you here!
Well, I'll go ahead and answer why I love paintball so much...
Adrenaline without the risk of becoming a pancake. (In other words, I get an incredible adrenaline rush without having to jump out of a plane. Heh.)
That, and you know full well how much I love the woods. That's where I play the most. I just love being out in the woods. Sneaking around. Camoflage. Becoming one with what's around me. And the challenge of surprising someone.
Not to mention I loved playing capture the flag when I was younger...and it's basically the same guy, but with projectiles coming at you at 280-300 feet per second, it just makes it...fun! (No wisecracks from you speedball only guys. I play speedball too!)
I just plain like strategy, shooting at targets, capture the flag, and being outdoors (especially in the woods.) Not to mention that I've found most paintball players to be helpful and friendly, and more than willing to help me improve as a player. A very friendly bunch for the most part...
*reads UT's post* Oh crud. I'm going to have an identity crisis now. I've never considered myself a Sadist OR Masochist. Thanks a lot UT...

 Oh come now, Crime Dog! Those of us who know you know that you're most definitely a massochist. NOt sure if that shows up in your paintball experiences, but.....;)
Thanks for the answers so far!

*chuckle* Yeah...that's me. The quiet, conservative, Evangelical Christian guy that I am. Really a closet pagan/massochist. *shakes his head* You crack me up man.

Why I play paintball hmmm.... I guess I like the sound of the paint flying by you or the sound of the go-go-go at the beggining or the sliding into bunkers or the part when you flank your friend and shoot him in the ***. My best advice to you is to go play. See if you like it. Then ask yourself why YOU like it.

My marker is another thing I can tinker with until it either breaks down or can teleport paintballs to my opponents. I have this obsession with messing around with technical stuff lol.

When I am at home, I have work creeping in on my mind. At work I also think about home and personal stuff. At Church it seems like I think of everything, in fact its sometimes hard to focus on the real reason Im there. On the paintball field I have only one thing on my mind. Shoot him before he shoots me. Its really kind of relaxing, which is strange for a sport that trully is an adrenaline rush and taxes all your senses.

Yeah, someone was asking about something in the relig/philos section and I told him where to go for his answer, who to talk to. I pointed him to the guys profile page, and thought Hmm, I wonder what this guys first post was, considering I know he doesnt play paintball. So I looked it up and here it is, his second post in PBR, and now here we are 50 pages later. Anyway. I figured it was worth resurecting.

It's a vent for adventure seekers.
You get to release your stress while playing an adventure game. It's also a place where every kid (or adult) can become the GI Joe they always fantasized about when they were younger, with very little risk of being injured.
As a matter of fact, the only injury I've seen as a result of paintball is a sprained ankle (I don't count welts as injuries. ;) ) It truly is a safe game.
Every little kid likes tag...but this is tag with cool-looking "guns." It's "tag on crack" if you will.
I don't get the adrenaline rush anymore, but I did when I first started playing.
And it's the only place your balls can fly at 200mph, unless you drive a top fuel dragster or a fighter jet. ;)

This is my injury. It is nasty so be warned. (http://www.geocities.com/ythpstr_2000/knees.html) Paintball is generally a safe sport, as long as your not pushing close to 30 and trying to keep up with teens. WEAR KNEE PADS!

Try something new. Have you ever bunkered someone? Man thats a rush. You have...? Then try a superman bunker! Done that, then try something else. How about pretending your on the other team. I think that would be funny. Do a dead mans walk.
Anyway, there is more adrenaline to sap out of Paintball if you have desire to get it.
