A hopper is the container on top of the gun that holds paintballs in it. Some are electric, and they shake up the paintballs a bit so they fall down faster and allow you to get a higher rate of fire.

a hopper is the tube that hooks up to the top of your gun to hold the paintballs.
Hopper holds the paint for the gun. It also feeds the gun paint.

You aren't serious are you?
Does it matter. Maybe some will have "have do you fire a paintball gun?" He's in the right forum so who cares?

Is there a big difference between an electric hopper and just a cheap 8-10 dollar non-electric one? Well, there's gotta be a difference because of the price, but are non-electric hoppers so bad they are almost impossible to play with?

Have you ever noticed that during a game you have to shake your hopper to get it to feed? Well when most guns shoot they have blow back. What this blow back does is shoot air into the hopper and jamming balls. The gun has blow back every time you shoot so it causes balls to jam in the hopper. When they jam they don't feed ,therefore, you don't shoot any paint. The balls can also get jammed in the hopper just because you are cramming a bunch of round objects into a funky shaped hopper. A electric hopper scrambles the balls when the eye sees that it is not feeding any balls. So It only works when it has to and helps feed your gun paint. Now you don't have to stop shooting your stream of paint because nothing is coming out instead you can keep on shooting. This is why electro hoppers are way better than the non-electric hoppers.

A blowback will do ok with a regular hopper, because the sharp kick shakes the hopper enough to keep it feeding most of the time. Pretty much every other gun NEEDS an electronic hopper. It makes a BIG difference. (If you put a regular hopper on a cocker or an electro, you would have to shake your hopper every few shots and you would chop a lot of balls.)

Sharp kick?
yeah I got knocked down last time the kick is so bad on my marker (sarcasm) :)
unless you are physically retarded or hold your marker like you hold a baby (just hold it, dont grip it) there isn't much kick at all!
I get so sick of hearing people talk about so much kick ... what is wrong with you people?

I think he meant that some semi markers have a sharp kick COMPARED to markers with lighter bolts/ electro markers
