Imagine = speedball and very easy to break
98 Custom = woodsball and very sturdy
Go 98C. You might want to get a new barrel and double trigger though.
BTW no vs. threads

Actually Imagines do not break very easily and work perfectly fine in woods ball. Plus, refurbed Imagines are alot cheaper. Plus you won't need as many ups as you would need to put on a 98 right away. PLus electro>mech.
98s do not work well in speedball, even w/ an egrip, double trigger, all that stuff.
I vote imagine.

Get the imagine. 98's suck imo not worth the money it takes to get them to preform well. So imagine for speedball and woodsball over the 98.

Tippmanns dont suck first of all. How 'bought some facts to back that up. Have you ever even owned a tippmann. But, if this is your first gun, I would say go with the tippmann to get the feel of the gun and the sport. After that, if you feel comfortable, you could buy a good electro.

Yes in fact the 98 was my first gun and i loved it at first because i was a noob. But i look back and wish i got an imagine or something else. And they suck because comped to other guns out now they are so out of date. The only they have going for them is how durable they are and that's it imo.

^I was exactly the opposite. My first gun was 98c, and then I went to an E-99 after a few months. It ended up being a mistake because I wasn't ready for the maintenance and breakdown issues with electro Spyders. I should have just stayed with the 98c.

this is my frist real gun
ive had a few brass eagle avengers (super crappy), other than that ive used friends markers. im looking for a good strater gun basicaly. i live in back woods wisconsin, so from what i hear the tippy seem to be better for that
what problems are most common with the electro spyders?

Yes, I'de look into getting a Custom Pro if you get a TIppy.

Yeah if are only gonna play woods and such, go for the Tippy. But if you are thinking about speedball at all, get the Imagine.

imagine because of it's vast choice of upgrades at an agreeable price.

Yea, thats totally wrong. The Gun dosent make it speed or woodsball. You can Woodsball with a Karnivore or DM5, or Speedball with a BT or Akiron. The size of the gun is the only limiting factor for speedball, and flashy anno the only problem for woodsball.
Deal with it.

None if you clean and lube them after every day of play. Just like a car you need to do proper maintenance on your marker. If you hear someone crying their O-rings broke it is because they have never oiled and cleaned them. Total lack of maintenance will cause any marker to stop functioning properly.
Out of the two you listed i would go with the 98 for woodsball.
For speedball I would take the Imagine.

If you're honestly debating between the two and can't decide, Imagine is the better choice without a doubt. The only reason to get a 98C IMO is if you don't want the flashy look of a Spyder because you play woodsball, or you want more mil-sim/woodsball type upgrades. Otherwise, Imagine. The front grip and overall size of the 98C is horrendous. This goes without mentioning the speed difference.

Wow. Three posts, Three minutes. Your just great. And The 98 Isnt much bigger than an Imagine. Im actually holding them both in my hands right now and there about the same size. If your thinking about sticking with the gun you buy for awhile, and probably never get a new one, go with the 98. Let me tell you, Its pretty darn hard to switch from a offsite feedneck, meaning you can aim like a real gun, to a Vertical feed, Which is like most markers, there is a Feedneck blocking your path. I used a 98. Now with my Cocker, its pretty hard to hit stuff, at least for the first few weeks. The Imagine has the VF, so it wouldnt be hard to switch from that to, lets just say an Ion. But If you use a 98 and Switch directly to an Ion, Youll just shoot way too many balls. Youll see someone, and just fire out your hopper in his general direction. IMO, a Tippy is better for the so called "Sniper Role" because of the sights, and Imagine and any other gun better for the Front players. And If firepowers your issue, A good Trigger Job is Key to making it fast, but not as fast I think, as a Spyder. I have a Great Trig job for the 98 in the Custom Mod Forum.

Never become a sniper and sights are useless, paintballs don't fly straight like bullets.
Switching from an offset to a vertfeed is not as hard as you think. Just look down the side of the barrel as opposed to the top.

Imagine>98c. First off its half the price. Second, its cheaper to upgrade.nd i dont care about this "the 98c is madefor woodsball" crap. Honestly ive seen people own with PINK ions in woodsball. And in that sense the Imagine would be versitle, meaning you could use it in bolth types of play, the 98 is only sorta OK for one type.

Time to rant here. . .
I play exclusively with people that own cheap guns--commonly 98Cs and a few Spyders. Guess who is always having trouble and fixing their gun? That's right, the Spyder guys. I get tired of them having to bow out because something went wrong. Even when neglected the 98c will always be reliable. That's a plus that a Spyder will never attain. I've had both 98Cs and cheap electro Spyders. I never regretted my Tippy. I eventually hated my E-99 after a short while. It just started to have problems that needed money to fix. I don't want to see another new player have trouble with poorly manufactured guns. Buy the 98C and gain experience. Then sell it (at a higher resale % than a Spyder) after you want to upgrade past the sear-trippers. The only worthwhile feature the Imagine has for it is speed--that's it (debate all you want). Yes, the Imagine's price is a little cheaper, but the overseas manufacturing is to blame for that.

spy i am sick blatently attacking me on my postion on spyders. cant you just leave ANYONE? alone. Honestly you want this kid to pay $139 just beacuse u HATE spyder?!? and saying he can neglect his marker does NOT help him in the long run. and the only reson tippys sell for higher is(drum roll) THEY ARE MORE MONEY IN THE FIRST PLACE. And yes your beloved tippys parts where MADE overseas. People here just assembled it. And for one will u just do your reaserch. And i wish that you wouldnt put extreme leftist political veiws on your sig. Paintball and polotics dont mix. its OKAY if its a silly joke, but claiming out good USA is going communist just takes it way to far. Guess which country wants to rid the world of communisim for good? WE do. THere is no conspiracy.....only islamic extremeists who want all of us "white devils" dead. And might i remind you that you are insulting the memory of the 3000+ people who died that day. So for the love of god-show some repect for something. And if you support "anti-violence" let me tell you something-thousands apon thousands of people have died so you can complain and whine that your favorite leftist congressman or president isnt in office. People have given you more than enough, its time to start giving back.

98C's always work because the marker has absolutely nothing to it but a basic operation. Some people, like myself, can handle some routine maintenance for better overall performance.
I've owned an Imagine for 3 years and not once has it had a problem I haven't spent more than 10 minutes to fix.
The Spyder has a few more advantages to it than speed (and lets not downplay speed here, it's pretty much the only thing that matters in paintball as far as the ability of a marker goes). Going from that horrendous front-grip on the 98C to any modern marker is quite an experience. If we know the beginner will be moving on to higher-level markers, why not start to get a feel for what they're like, instead of shooting a marker that in no way, shape, or form represents any marker in today's high-end market? It makes absolutely no sense to me.
If you're a complete idiot who can barely replace a lightbulb and you want nothing more than a marker that can deliver paintballs to the general radius of where you're aiming, go ahead and get a 98C.

That was just so retarded. None of it had anything to do with this thread. Even the part in the begining with The Imagine. He isnt attacking your position, just debating his. If what you say is tru, then you are Hitler because youre telling him to change his views becasue they dont agree with yours. I doubt that he flew those planes into the buildings, mainly becasue he lives in Minnesota, and becasue, ya know, hes still alive. Youre an Idiot, and just leave. And Tippmann>Spyder.

My comments were on no way directed at you, spyderlover. It just happened to be that my post was after yours. I was just offering my opinion and experience with the two brands to the thread starter. No need to get all upset.
As for the other matters in your post, they don't pertain to this thread, so PM me if you want to talk about it.
