as much as i love peyton manning, and not the pats, ill help you out, haha j/p, but it depends on what you are going to play speedball or woods? if you play speed and you can afford it, the ion is the best choice, simply because it is a cheap marker, but its fast, and its exellent stock. as for woods, i would say the custom or pro is the best because they dont shoot the fastest, but they are very reliable and they have a vast number of upgrades to them, so i hope this helps you out some

ions are $200, i have seen them go for like $180 though. Is your budget for the gun only or everything? If it is for everything I would suggest buying a Spyder Imagine if you play speedball or a Tippmann 98 Custom if you play woods. Both of those markers have plenty of upgrades available so you can buy new parts for it as you get better.

If you are playing back I would get a fast marker like a spyder imagine. You will need it to hold lanes and stuff. Well that would be if you are playing speedball. If you are playing woodsball either tippmann custom pro or spyder imagine would be good. I have spyder imagine and its really nice.

Get the imagine. I it is more universal gun, and it doesn't ake very much maintenance. Plus if you get a refurbed imagine, you have room for a good hopper and HPA;)

im into the woods ball more, for example last time i was at apocalypse i was in the woods (with a bunch of wooden boxes and other assorted stuff) for like 70%of the time, but i enjoy hyperball (plastic tubes) as well but not as much
also what about the spyder pilot, is it any good?

REfurbed Imagine + T-Board w/ eyes > PIlot ACS. And it will be only about 7$7 more.

The Imagine. It's electronic, but otheriwse pretty much identical to the other two. It offers a much faster rate of fire.
An ion is out of your reach for now. You'd need high pressure air fills, a HPA tank (which can range from $50 for a cheap heavy steel one to $200 for a nice fiber wrap) not to mention a loader that could keep up.
Imagines are fast and compact, relativly lightweight guns. They require easy to do routine maintenence (basic lubing) and operate well on Co2 as well as HPA. Tippmanns are larger, heavier, and manually operated, they will be slower. The advantage is that they have a reputation from EVERY player out tehre as being a very reliable gun. There have been cases of players who have never taken apart their Tippmann, never lubed it, and it still works. The gun is literally impossible to break. Granted, it's on the ugly side, it's heavy, slow, and feels like an assault rifle with the tank attached, but it gets the job done to a degree.

ok i think im going to go with the sonix just because i dont want an electric as my first gun because i hear they are higher maintanence and that if they get wet good chance that you need to know how to fix it, and quite frankly i dont have a clue how to fix a paintball gun

He said that he is more woodsball than speedball. Tippmans are nice, but need to be upgraded often (stock barrel is inadequate fo rthe ranges in woodsball). Therefore i reccomend an alternative spyder that is accurate, as (according to reviews) reliable, and can be cheaply upgraded. The Spyder Rodeo. It already has a drop forward, 12 inch barrel, and psi gauge, and has a light-pull double trigger. If you, Tom, want everything to go along with it (and an extra back-up crappy mask), then it will cost you $ 150 to get a nice package with everything you need. You could then either get a better barrel, put the extra money in the piggy bank, or save up for a e-trigger frame (around 40-50) later, and not be forced to upgrade now. Alone the marker can be found a $ 99. As you said you wanted a good mech marker, I reccomend looking at this marker. It dosen't have the legendary Tippman durability image behind it, but It has performed very well against it compared to the price (you need to buy a couple upgrades for the tippy to match its specs, and it starts out cheaper, and its upgradeable).
For more info on the Rodeo (and to validate spyder having a decent mech marker):

Spyders=Spyders. An electric gun will have just as much maintenance as a mech. You just have to charge it. And if you are really worried about getting it wet, wrap it in plastic wrap and duct tape over the gaps between the frame and grip, it'll keep the water out.
You're gonna want an electric now, cuz you're gonna want to buy one soon:|

cant i just get an e-trigger or something later

It'll be a ton more. Get it now so you don't havve to worry about it.

Yes, Tom, to answer your question. It will be around ~40 to 50 dollars. So it boils down to this: The Rodeo does require less maintaince than an electric, and can be upgraded if you eventually decide to go into speedball. For instance, look at the about.com page I posted earlier. If you think that you are going to want electric/speedball NOW, then by all means don't get a Rodeo. It will cost less to get electric now then later.
However, don't get electric if you don't want to now, because you can upgrade later. Also you will have to get and electric hopper right off the bat, and an AS (anti-syphon) most likely to prevent damage. The Rodeo can fire well with its trigger, so its more than adequate for anything but full-auto speedball. Thus I reccomend investing in a good marker that dosen't need upgrades to start with and is easily upgradeable in the future (and the money you save can begin to fill that piggy bank). Don't get an electric just becaue its cheaper (not by a whole lot) than buying an e-trigger later. That is why imo you should get a good mech.

spyders have little maintnence(sp) needs, mech and electric
If you do get an electric get this
refurb imagine - 65
revvy / eggy II- 45/65
20 oz c02 - 15
then you have enough for a cp 1 piece barrel! (one of the best 1 piece barrels EVER!)
total- $155 w/ Revvy and cp 1 piece
total -$175 w/ eggyII(fast hopper) and the CP one piece.
i'd go with the second "package" b/c you probally wont have to upgrade your hopper for a while.

or get a custom pro with a e-grip on it or for solid mech get a custom pro R/T and it will be good for both woods and speed ball

Im going to reccomend-
-refurbed spyder imagine- 80 dollars
-Eggy 2- 70 dollars
-20 oz. co2 tank -20 dollars
Now you have money to spare to go play. The egg is fast enough to were youll never chop with your spyder, you should get plenty of shots from the tank, and the spyder will be fast enough, light enough, and requires very little maintence. Everytime you get home from playing, open it up, clean it, put some lube on it, then put it back together and your done.

I would recommend a Pilot. The pilot comes with a derlin ACS bolt, has semi, 3 shot burst, 6 shot burst, and full auto. If the pilot is $130, Reloader 2 hopper is $50, C02 tank is 20, then you'll be at $200. I would recommend this over an imagine, because it has a better bolt, better barrel, better grip, better trigger and more firing modes.

Did you read any of the previous posts? They explain why a refurbed Imagine is a better buy than the Pilot.

Yea, the pilot is 55 dollars more. The only thing extra your getting with the pilot, is the ACS bolt. The bolt is not worth 55 dollars, nor is it even needed if your using an egg.

Theyre pretty decent. Less removable parts than a real cocker so its a little bit more newb proof. Unfortunately, for anyone looking to get a cocker, I think these are a waste of money. You can get one of the REX fockers for about 100 bucks. The rex fockers are 100% cocker compatible and it comes with a clamping feedneck and on/off. You can e-blade them, pump conversion or leave it mech. Theyre probably what you should look into if you want a closed bolt marker for your first.

for a 200 spend limit definitely go with the tippmann 98 custom. but if ur playing speedball u might want to save up a little more or go get the ion which is priced around 200 on the internet. the tippmanns are very durable for woodsball and are almost limitless to the combinations of modifications u can put on. and with the ion there is alot of modifications u can put on for speedball.
