According to the makers of the APE Rampage Board (see note) you have to de-solder and re-solder the original solenoid. Has anyone done this to thier A5 yet and if so, do you have the directions and is it pretty hard or easy?

**********NOTE**********
The orginal solenoid must be reused with this board. You must de-solder the solenoid and re-solder it onto the new board.

Soldering is easy, you just have to know what you're doing. A proshop would do it if you don't feel confident doing it yourself.

OK...what do I need to do it? Any special tools and are there directions i can find that tell me how to? Does the proshop usually charge a lot to do this for me?

First you need a Soldering iorn (it looks like a woodburner) and some solder (a coil of metal)

I think you also need some chemical but im not sure. but basicly you melt the little metal beeds on the old board and pull the solenoid off and re attach it to the APE board where the directions say to by placing one wire in the correct spot and make sure it will make a connection, and melt a little bead of solder over the wire to hold it down and do the same for the other side.

if theres anything wrong up there please tell me because im thinking of getting an Ape Board also.

-ps you can just get one with the solniod already attached.

Soldering on a circuit board can be tricky. If there are other components or runs nearby you have to be careful not to overheat them. Just putting a drop of solder onto the wire will result in what is called a cold joint. Cold joints are very weak and break easily. I recommend you have someone who has some soldering experience do this job for you.

if you get some fish tape (copper weave tape - this will "suck in" the extra solder for a clean connection) and some electronics solder that already has flux in it, you should be fine. make sure you get a flat tipped (looks like a small flathead screwdriver with more of an angle to it) electronics soldering iron and it should be a breeze.

Just pay $11.00 more so it comes with a better selonoid already soldered.
