does anyone have a detailed explination of how EXACTLY thoes m-16 or m4a1 colt forgrip/barrel shrouds clamp on the gun/barrel? do they spin? are they durable? will they clamp on most barrels or is there a certain list of barrels they fit to?

Thanx!

well, they clamp onto whats called a delta-ring assembly. IT is very hard to explain in my honest opinion. If you have a friendwho owns an AR-15, go ask him to inspect his rifle, it'd be pretty much self explanatory. Well, the delta rind is a ring that is TIGHTLY (you need a very good vice and torque wrench to take one off) attached to the fron receiver of the AR-15 (the part just below and forward of the carry handle/sight. The delta ring is spring loaded, and if you pull them back, towards the receiver, it reveals the tabs of the handguards. I'll try to post a photo of my ar-15 later to help, but my dig cam sux. Heres a little type illustratoin, sorry that it sux. Here goes nuthin:

ignore the periods on this. (its so they make a space, and the server doesnt delete it. the = are the barrel shroud. the _ is the barrel. The _ at the end is the delta ring. the * are the springs that push the ring forward to retain the shroud. As you can see, the shroud sticks under the the delta ring, and the tapering of the ring puts tension on it, keeping it from spinning around in your hands. If you were to mill down the front of your marker and put threads on the body, and then thread the delta ring, you could screw the delta ring onto your body. The handguards ould then fit in snugly, and to fit the handguard around the barrel, you can simply dremel out a hole large enough to fit. You can then purchase an M16-a2 front site from www.adtacsys.com and screw it to the end of your barrel. I hope that helped.

it helps a little.. i sorta lost you in the end about the cutting.. Id live to see a good upclose shot of yours..

mainly id like to put it on my tippman, and cut a slit on the back where the little bever tail type taper is and have that actualy back behind the barrel threds of the boxy of the gun.. maybe ny a inch or 2.. and have the shroud clamped to the gun..

if you could take a pick for me that would be really great!

ok, im sorry about my last explanation, i reread it and found that it really sux, sorry :( . Well, my dig cam is outa business, so no pics of MY sr-15, but i did a little surfin on the bushmaster.com website (they manufacture aftermarket AR-15's). Dont get that site confused with the company that makes bushmaster markers.

I got a few pics of the handguard area that i hope will be self-explanatory. Here is a pic of the M-4A1 handguards, on the right side (the rear of the guards) you can see a riong of tabs jutting out, this is what fits under the delta ring. If the delta ring does ot retain them, then the halves split apart.

here is a photo of a completed M4 receiver. The delta ring is just below and forward (right) of the carry handle//sight rail. As you can see, it is a tapered ring that is spring loaded, you pull itbackwards to reveal the tabs on the handguards, and thus remove them. THe delta rings are threaded so if you get your marker to a mill shop, you can get it your body threaded to the delta threads. Then you can fit the handguard tabs into the delta ring, and then on the end (left side of the guards) you can make them fit around your barrel by drilling a hole (the .90 inch barrel wont fit thru the .40 inch orifice in the end of the handguard, so you have to drill a hole with a dremel tool) the machine shop will do this for you.
