Not a bad idea at all. Stickyed for the time being...

A few things I don't like about the whole idea...
1) There are some shops that I wouldn't trust with a fair evaluation.
2) It easily costs another $20 or so, which many times puts your good deal just right under retail.
3) I send my money to Jonny, who claims he never got it, so he wants his cocker back. Ok, so I add delivery confirmation, puts another $2 on shipping costs, and Jonny has to be home to sign for his money.
Other than that, it's a good idea. Could we find someone on the site that everyone trusts and would be willing to do all requested 3rd party trades on this site for a nominal fee? Also, if everyone did trust him, everyone could send him money orders only, and when he has both the money order and a fully functional marker or whatever that is worth the money involved, send them both out. This would get the product to the buyer faster, and since he would only accept money orders they wouldn't have to wait for checks to clear. Or we could just run the whole thing on paypal...
Jonny and Billy make a deal. Jonny sends product to Mr. Smith, Billy paypals Mr. Smith Jonny's money (Negotiated price, plus half of shipping) + Mr. Smith's money (other leg of shipping, plus like $2 for trouble). Mr. Smith then paypals Jonny's money, and mails out product when both are received. Sure, Mr. Smith only gets like $2 a transaction, but if he does 10 trades a day, and spends an hour or so doing it each day, he makes it worth his time.

Actually that would be a pretty lucrative business idea for an airsmith to do. Simply act as a thirdparty and check the guns for a fee.

As a store owner, the whole idea sounds good except for the paypal part-they get a % of every transaction that I run thru them, which would burn up $2 real quick, I would recommend using the money order/cashiers check idea. The third party idea is great. It is amazing how many markers come in that are just not what they are supposed to be. My store is in Everett,Wa if anyone needs any help. http://www.doodlebugsportz.com
I can see one problem and that being shops that don't wanna have the hassle but hey I'm probably wrong:laugh: anyways, I really like that.

the other cool thing is that if you send your gun to a store owner (Mr. Smith) , and it gets broken en route, he can prolly fix it so johnny doesnt get mad or whatver
ok idea except the third person can just go "oh thank you" and run away with Johnny's cocker.

Sounds great, I'm looking to buy a marker in the next week here, so I will definitely call up my local shop and ask if they can do it.
i think i will try it sometime

The way to be sure no one loses a gun is to use Delivery Confirmation with the USPS or use Signiture Required UPS deliveries. This way it is tracked to who was the last one to have it. Also would recommend Insuring any equipment for whatever the selling price is, so that if it does get lost in shipping, the seller would be covered. My store is available to players in the Everett Area. Contact me prior to any transactions please.

The next logical step would be to find Shops or Airsmiths that would be willing to work with us on establishing this system. Ideally if we had at least two or three from each state to start. That way both parties should be able to come to agreement on a third party site.
Doodle, can we sign you up?

Sure, I would do third party trades in my area.
$5.00 per gun handled.
Paypal transactions would be charged an additional $2.00
All Guns would be shipped in & out insured @ selling price.
Seller would be responsible for charges if transaction is not completed.
No guns would be shipped to buyer until full payment was received.

I would caution you to verify all dealer info for dealers that sign up. This way you know your stuff is going to a dealer & not someone looking for equipment at the sellers expense.

My local field is going to do a third party for me this next week. Perhaps I may be able to get them in contact with one of you mods for listing as a service of theirs :) I'll let you guys know!

Just an FYI but some one already beat you too this idea. Doc Nichols has been doing this for the last year or so. Check out his site at www.airsmith.com . He takes delivery of both the money and the marker then sends his evaluation of the marker to both parties so they both know what problems he might have found. He's also a real good airsmith so he can fix just about anything that might be wrong.

Not sure how well this would work out, but you could even find one or 2 shops in some major cities.. send the gun to a store close to the buyer, the buyer can go to the store and pick the gun up, and pay the owner while they're there. Saves on the second shipping cost, and reduces the chance of something getting lost/broken en route.

KK-
I replied to the other thread. Would it be possible to do a few preliminary runs to see how it worked? I think if more people knew of this idea and knew where to go, it would catch on very quickly.

palmers does third party. i think pbreview should set up some sort of deal with them, it would get them business so i'm sure they wouldn't mind. and given that palmers is a well known quality gun manufacturer, i'd say they can be considered "reputable"
