I might be purchasing a model 98 custom within the next few weeks and I was wondering what sort of mods can be done to make the gun more accurate? I've heard the stock barrel isn't too great, so I'd probably put on a lapco bigshot or 32° barrel. But what else besides a barrel can be used to give me better accuracy/more consistent shots? Compressed air systems aren't an option... Any thoughts/opinions/experiences? Thanks...

try polishing the inside of your barrel.
Take some metal polish like BRASSO or something, put it on a rag, attach the rag to a dowel or something, and use a powerdrill so spin the rag at high speed inside the barrel for a while.
I havn't tried it, but i hear it actually works.
Someone else can correct me if they want.

Well i'd swap out the stock barrel for an aftermarket one anyway.. so that isn't a problem. But what else besides a barrel??

Buy an x-chamber or regulator to make your shots more consistent. That will help with accuracy. Keep your gun clean too. (marker for you p.c. folks) Make sure it is well oiled, but not so much that some gets sprayed in the barrel. That ruins the accuracy. I found that out the hard way one time.

Thanks for the suggestion. If I was to choose one, which would be better? What are the different costs? What are the pros/cons of each? Anyone else have other suggestions? Thanks...

Well, the regulator is porbably your better bet if you have the money. A palmer stabilizer is a good choice. (I think it's about a hundred dollars.) But you would also need to buy a vertical adaptor with it. (Same with x-chaber depending on what you buy.) The regulator will keep out all liquid c02. The expansion chamber will help turn the liqud c02 into a gas. It won't nesseceraly (ack! spelling) keep out all liquid c02. The expansion chamber with the vertical adaptor can run anywhere from 40-60 depending on what type you buy and where from. If your'e going to buy the x-chamber, make sure to find out if it comes with a vertical adaptor or if you need to purchase one seperatley. For colors, usually they come in black or silver. But ask when you buy. You could always paint them yourself too.
