Well, here I am, about to head off to Time Wars next week, and lo and behold, I have been appointed a GENERAL! Check it out here: http://www.mxsportz.com/futureshock/time/

Click the big poster once you get there, and scroll down to Maj. Gen. John A. Logan.

I'm Maj. Gen. John A. Logan. ImpyGimpy247 will confirm I am Mike Bell....anyhow..this is my first big game and I need some help! Any advice for a new general? Do I actually get to play any or just sit around and give orders from a tent? I want to play, but I know there's big bucks on my head. On the other hand, being a General is a unique role I would LOVE to play.

So......let's have some advice!

Have you ever heard a general die on the battle field? I think not!
If you want to be good, Look at tactics for different terrain, learn Do's and do nots, etc. Learn the field, get info from your guys of the enemy, what ever. Envolve everyone and you'll see how far you'll go when everyone works with you. Its a great experience!

i think your quote of "do nots" on your signature is funny when put below the ledership question you asked. lern miltary tactics, like how to cut off a group of players and bring 'em down. go to your library and look up some of those types of books.

That's cool Ebon, congrats on being a general. If you've watched Gladiator then you HAVE to get some soil from the ground and rub your hands in it! Guaranteed victory every time.

I'd reccomend reading Sun Tzu's Art of War. Though I personally haven't read it.

Here's a quote from Marcus Aurelius himself.

"Not to wander out of the way, but upon every motion and desire, to perform that which is just: and ever to be careful to attain to the true natural apprehension of every fancy, that presents itself."

All your decisions must be made with the most confident of nature. Otherwise, there are still issues yet to be resolved, and thus need to be addressed before moving forward.

I take no credit from the paragraph above :)

Sonshi.com (http://www.sonshi.com/index.html) has lots of strategy text including Sun Tzu. Good luck

Use Recon heavily. A well informed General is a General that will be able to outsmart his foe. Find the guys that are sneaky, and have them gather info.

Use small squads here and there to harrass the enemy.

Go to paintballzone.com for good ideas on how to break lines, demoralize your opponent, and other intimidating things. (Great resource on snipers too, and what they're capable of doing.)

In other words, fight smart, and fight dirty. Guerilla tactics are always fun too. Attack, and then draw back. Use ambushes. Confuse them. Scatter them. Seperate them, and then sweep them up like refuse.

Sorry. Am I getting to carried away? ;)

Tactics and reading up on Sun Tzu are great and all but you can't make any of that work without communication. And what goes along with communciation? Actually having people follow your orders, and delegating authority is also very important.

"The Art of War" is my bible

I like putting alot of people on patrol and defense then sending some very good players in to infiltrate and capture objectives. oh, and GET RADIOS!
