i bought a custom pro and went through a case and a half of paint over 3 seperate days of playing. the gun started acting up like it wouldnt recock itself. so i took it apart and the rear bolt o-ring was torn. how fast do these o-rings last? is it normal that it broke so fast?

Is this the ACT model?
If so you might not get an answer right away because this appears to be a new problem. Others have mentioned similar deals lately. My guess is that something is wrong from the factory with the ACT system. Rear bolt o-rings should last for years with proper care.

This happened in an earlier post today with an ACT system. He doesnt know what caused it, his was brand new too. My friend has had a m 98 for over three years now and he hasnt had to replace it yet. Call tippmann thats all i can really tell you and try to replace the O-ring

Had the exact same problem with my 98 custom... replaced it today and is working like a charm... it lasted less than a month! So I was a bit mad, but nothing big.

Yeah, the act system was a realy bad call on Tippmann's part...

Not sure if it is the design or a bad batch. Mine went through 1,000 rounds then started not to recock. Opened it up and the o-ring was completely screwed up. It looks like the o-ring expanded and then got caught between the bolt and power tube. I had a problem with the little red o-ring on my safety that I believe was a similar problem. It expanded and made it hard to use the safety. I told Tippmann about the problem (also asked if it is a known issue) and they said just to replace the o-ring. They left their number for me to order/get a new one and I really wasn't in the mood to deal with them. I ordered mine from TippmannParts.com with a few other things. Put both o-rings in and the gun still had problems. I had to back the velocity screw out and clean plastic scrapings that were clogging up the valve (I also sent an email about this to Tippmann on Saturday and still haven't gotten a response). Now, the gun is in tip-top shape and works the way I feel it should.
My Model 98 still has its original o-ring after five years of play, so they really shouldn't wear out. All this little incident has taught me is not to rely on Tippmann for support. My suggestion is to first look at all your o-rings. Make sure that there aren't any other problems (look if an o-ring looks a little bigger than it should be or if there is any bite marks on it). Go to a shop and pick up the o-ring(s) (I wouldn’t buy just an o-ring from a website). An o-ring kit would also be a good idea. For some reason I don't feel safe getting another o-ring from Tippmann just for the fact that I'm not sure if it will also be defected.

I disagree completely. It's a great mechanical design that compares favorably with electronic devices like eyes. It just appears that Tippmann didn't have one little kink worked out first. Once this bolt o-riong thing is solved, the ACT is truly a fine addition to the Tippmann line.
