How in the *@% do you unscrew the reg., exp., or gas through grip off of the hose?

Do people put loctite on the threads or what? Do I need a vice and a wrench? I don't want to scratch anything.

If you put a towel or something between the vice and gun, and one between the wrench and gun, it shouldn't scratch
